Family Portraits | On the Streets of Parkville

It’s been awhile since I’ve taken any family portraits – there’s something about humid Kansas summers that turns people away. But fall is here, and I got to shoot three family’s photos this weekend! First up is Lance and Sarah’s family – they are one of my regulars, and we went to one of my favorite spots for fall portraits – downtown Parkville, MO! It’s full of charing storefronts, historic buildings, trains, and fun murals. The boys are adorable, especially when Big Brother loves on Little Brother. Have a look!

Family Portraits | Fall at the Nature Sanctuary

I’ve known this mama for a number of years now, but I was so excited when she asked me to do family portraits so I could meet her two leading men! I also got to explore a new location – the Parkville Nature Sanctuary. It’s one of my new favs. You can’t beat a waterfall in Missouri! And little six-month-old Dean couldn’t be more adorable … I’m looking forward to editing the rest of the photos just so I can keep looking at that sweet smile!

Portrait Session | Wild, Wild “West”

I had a great time taking photos of this wild & fun family in Kansas City’s West Bottoms this weekend. I’ve shot portraits there three times so far, and every time the backdrop has been completely different and unique. It continues to be a favorite spot of mine! This portrait session was won in a Relay For Life silent auction. I love doing photography for a good cause – and there’s no better cause than fighting cancer – something that touches us all. Bonus: this family was so great to work with…not to mention so photogenic!

Portrait Session | Cash

I had a great time photographing the most well-behaved toddler this weekend! Maybe those of you who know him are laughing, but he was perfect for the photo shoot! He’s not even two yet, but he listened, posed, smiled, and was the best little subject. I did find out he loves rain puddle, though. 😉 We had fun running around downtown Parkville, MO – a cute town with tons of photo ops. We even ran into Elvis, who sung a little Johnny Cash for us.

Portrait Session | Unique Location, Fun Family

In addition to shooting Damon’s senior portraits yesterday, I got to take photos of his immediate and extended family! They had done their research and preparation on location, poses, and props – which made my job easy. Not to mention how photogenic they were. I loved shooting at Krug Park in St. Joe. You can hardly tell it’s a park from the cool stone backgrounds.

Senior Portraits | Damon

Yesterday afternoon I got to photograph Damon’s senior portraits in a unique new spot in St. Joe – and it was perfect! (Aside from record high temperatures.) If I lived closer I’d shoot there more often. I felt like I was visiting ancient ruins in a European country. Bonus: he did a great job posing, smiling, and being himself. I’m very happy with the results!

Check out the senior photos I did last year on a farm. If you’re interested in having me shoot senior portraits, click the “contact me” link above.

Missouri Botanical Garden

After a couple of posts of portrait sessions I did this weekend, I’m back to sharing photos from our St. Louis weekend getaway. I had a hard time not publishing all of my photos from the Missouri Botanical Garden. It’s such a beautiful place! We got there an hour and a half before it closed, which wasn’t nearly enough time. But we enjoyed trekking our way around the grounds and looking at the Chinese Lantern Festival displays, which would have been even more gorgeous if we’d had time to visit at night.

St. Louis Vacation | Gateway Arch

My husband, Lil’ Miss K, and I took a short weekend getaway to St. Louis last weekend. Lil’ Miss K had a great time exploring the Gateway Arch, Missouri Botanical Gardens, St. Louis Zoo, and World Bird Sanctuary. She got a bit tired and grumpy on our last day, but overall she was a great traveler. She isn’t one to sleep in our arms or in a stroller anymore, so she was go-go-go the entire time!

Here are a few photos of the arch. The first two give you a perspective of what it looks like inside, and the second two are two photos I tried to shoot at a non-cliche angle. More photos to come once I have time to sort through them.
