I had the honor and privilege of photographing my coworker’s wedding this past weekend. I think everyone was a bit bummed out that the rainy weather and cool temps moved the ceremony inside instead of on the lake, but everything was beautiful nonetheless. The bride was stunning in her dress, and the families were so much fun! There’s always a hiccup at a wedding – in this case, the bride couldn’t find her purse, which made her late to her own big day. The guests were laid back and took it in stride. Aside from that, it went off without a hitch. It’s obvious how in love these two are – I was lucky to be a part of their big day.

Cycle in the City
Yesterday afternoon we attended Kansas City’s Cycle in the City, where they close down the city’s prettiest street for an afternoon of biking/walking/skating. As a cyclist who always feels in the minority, it was great to see so many families out riding their bikes. I was amazed at how many little 3-4 year olds were riding without training wheels! We also discovered balance bikes, which you can get for toddlers as early as 18 months – it may be our next big splurge for Lil’ Miss K! We had a lot of fun checking out the event – next year we’ll be back with our bikes.

Lil’ Miss K loves playing with Daddy’s sunglasses, but she hates wearing her own!
Lovin’ the Playground
I’ve loved every stage of Lil’ Miss K’s life so far, but I’m really savoring this time. I can see the wheels turning as she thinks, learns, and explores more every day. She repeats words we recite to her all the time now. My favorites are “cracker” and “magnet” and “owl”. I’ve been taking her to the park near our house almost daily, but it has mulch, so it’s not easy for her to run around and play freely. (She likes to sit down and attempt to eat the wood chips.) The playground at the zoo however, is paradise. She had a blast! The slide is her favorite.
Springtime at the Zoo
We recently made our first trip of the season to the zoo! We went first thing on a rainy, dreary Friday morning, thinking it wouldn’t be crowded at all. We were wrong! There were tons of school groups there. But we still enjoyed ourselves – spring and fall are by far the best times to visit the zoo. The animals were so active! We got to see two monkeys jumping furiously from branch to branch chasing each other for several minutes, and my favorite moment was when Lil’ Miss K walked up to the glass at the penguin exhibit and the penguins immediately hopped out of the water and waddled over to check her out. We have season passes to the zoo, so we’ll be back several times this year.
CJ’s Turning Three!
My most loyal customers returned this past weekend for a photo session of CJ, just in time for his third birthday! We planned an indoor session at Crown Center in Kansas City, but the weather was so gorgeous, we were able to take it outside by the fountains! We had to sneak in a couple pictures of Sissy too, of course.
Photo(s) of the Day: On the Farmstead
This weekend Baby K and I visited Deanna Rose Farmstead with two of my best friends and their four kiddos. These friends are two of four siblings, with a total of seven kids ages three and under. They’re used to the beautiful chaos of lots of children … I am not. But I loved every minute of it.

Photo(s) of the Day: Biggest Little Royals Fan Ever
This weekend we attended Baby K’s third Royals game! You may think I’m a huge baseball fan, but I admit that isn’t exactly true. I do enjoy baseball, but usually one Royals game a year is enough for me. We just happened to have the opportunity to go to three games this season – and we sure picked a great one for it! Baby K is obviously good luck – they won all three games we attended. And she’s on her way to being an even bigger fan, because her Uncle Matt spoiled her with some cute girly Royals onesies!

Portrait Session | Six Month Old Heidi
This weekend I had the pleasure of taking pictures of someone else’s baby for a change! This is one of my favorite photo sessions to-date. Six-month old Heidi was so happy and curious the entire time. Her parents both came up with ideas for the shoot and were open to my ideas as well. And … we had perfect weather! Here are just a few of my favorite images, taken at Park University.
