Portrait Session | Wild, Wild “West”

I had a great time taking photos of this wild & fun family in Kansas City’s West Bottoms this weekend. I’ve shot portraits there three times so far, and every time the backdrop has been completely different and unique. It continues to be a favorite spot of mine! This portrait session was won in a Relay For Life silent auction. I love doing photography for a good cause – and there’s no better cause than fighting cancer – something that touches us all. Bonus: this family was so great to work with…not to mention so photogenic!

Brighter Future, Better Kansas City

This weekend I had the privilege of photographing Donnelly College’s 10th annual SHINE gala, held at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs. Our advancement team started the day early, with a quick break for a stadium tour before guests started arriving. (In addition to photography, I also designed the invitations, program, signage, slideshow, and more.) The evening included lots of mingling, excellent hors d’oeuvres, a program featuring student and alumni panelists, and a time to raise more funds to keep costs down for underserved students. It was an incredible evening, and I’m so happy I had the chance to capture it!

Back to Portraits

Most of my clients typically stray away from doing photos in the heat of the summer, so this is my first portrait session in a month or so. We lucked out with a relatively cool evening. This is one of my favorite families ever (and yes, I’m partial because Julie is one of my best friends). The older kiddos are loads of fun, and 6-month-old Baby D couldn’t be cuter! He was enthralled with looking down at the grass, so we improvised and had Daddy “toss” him in the air to capture his smile from the right angle.

Family Portraits – Green Space

What a difference half a year can make! I took this family’s photos back in November, and I’m honored they asked me to do them again this summer. Little Oliver has changed so much! We tried out a new photo spot – Penguin Park in North KC. Not only is there a fun playground – there’s a lake with geese! I love how easy this family is to work with, and I can’t wait to finish editing the rest of their photos.

Downtown KC Portraits

I had the pleasure of photographing this fun mama and her four spunky kids last weekend. We did something completely different – starting in downtown Kansas City’s Rivermarket and taking the new (free!) street car to the Crossroads to shoot more photos there. We even got a shot on the street car! I would love to shoot senior portraits all along the street car route. Class of 2017: who’s with me?

Family Portraits, Happy Rock Trail

We had perfect weather yesterday evening for family portraits! You’d never guess it, but this mamma of two boys was nervous about them not sitting still and posing for photos. Don’t they look like sweet angels? Well, they are, but they’re also very busy. But that’s normal and that’s ok! We made it fun by moving around and making silly faces…and still got great photos.

Family Portrats – Liberty Memorial

I loved working with this family last fall, and I couldn’t be happier that they asked me to do their extended family portraits this spring! Kansas City’s Liberty Memorial is a great place for photos – the obvious iconic memorial, the city skyline, the steps and stone, and the greenery offer a ton of variety. I was pumped that they had a few of their own ideas for fun poses. And what’s not to love about mint green Chuck Taylor’s?

I’m back!

Hey, there! It’s been a while. My family has been going through a lot of life changes – so many that I haven’t had a second to work on photos. Tonight, I decided to take a little break to edit photos from over a month ago, before Lil’ Miss K even turned two. Next, I’ll actually edit her birthday photos and post those. I’ve missed this little blog…I’ve definitely missed my photography.

These were taken in the West Bottoms in an attempt to get some two-year-old shots. Unfortunately Lil’ Miss K was in a clingy mood and a bit afraid of the bridge, so things didn’t go as planned. But we still managed to get a few keepers!

An “outdoorsy” indoor photo shoot

Due to a 36-hour rain shower this weekend, we had to move this family’s photo shoot indoors. Luckily they had a great suggestion of a unique indoor location – Bass Pro Shop! I was a little unsure how it would go with the crowds and the lighting, but I think we were all really happy with how the shoot went. I had such a great time getting to know this energetic and creative family!
