Birthdays change as you age. My dad’s low-key birthday celebration on Thursday was proof of that. We met at a casual restaurant, and my mom baked him cookies instead of a cake. Since candles don’t really stick in cookies, he just held the 6 and the 4 while we very quietly and quickly sang happy birthday, so as to not disturb other patrons.

During our ladies weekend, we had fun with an anti-stress Dead Sea minerals face mask. I figured none of the other women would want their blue faces posted on my blog, so here’s a self-portrait in the mirror.
I just returned from a ladies weekend a the Lake of the Ozarks. We had a great time relaxing at a condo, visiting a winery, and doing some outlet mall shopping. The view of the lake is so pretty, even in the winter!
I’m on a road trip this weekend, so I decided to post a photo from a previous road trip with my husband. The Omaha Zoo is a great place to take photos, so it was hard to pick just one. Here’s my original post from the trip.
The last time I took a road trip in January was two years ago … with my parents … for a funeral. Below is a photo of a wind farm we passed in Iowa on that trip. I’m lucky my parents were willing to make the stop, because I got some pretty cool photos, most of which have never been published before.
Today I’m leaving on another road trip, but this time it’s a girls’ weekend at a spa in the Lake of the Ozarks! I’m so excited. Hopefully I’ll have some fun pictures to share when I return.
Today’s photo is more about the meaning behind it than the quality or creativity of the photo. I work at the American Cancer Society, and we recently found out that our coworker was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. I hate all cancer, but especially pancreatic cancer. My aunt died of it about 2 1/2 years ago, and it’s the only cancer that hasn’t had any significant breakthroughs in the last 40 years. My coworkers have rallied together to support her every way possible. Today we all wore “Team Suzi” t-shirts, made her signs of encouragement, and took group photos.
The Country Club Plaza in Kansas City shut off its holiday lights this past weekend. Here’s one final look until next year.
I love, love, love this Scentsy warmer I got for Christmas. Sometimes I turn it on right before bed just to watch the “bird” shadows flicker on the wall.
