Day 314: Happy Veterans Day!

This photo has absolutely nothing to do with Veterans Day. I tried to think of a way to tie them together, but I got nothin’. I didn’t want to bypass this holiday without saying thank you to all the veterans for serving our country and protecting us. And I might just say thank you tomorrow too, so you don’t feel like you’re only appreciated one day of the year.

Day 313: From Nail Biting to Nail Painting

Now that our big move is over, I can finally de-stress. I’m really looking forward to this Saturday’s Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Hope Gala. I figured it was time to get rid of my blue toenail polish and replace it with a classier red. (If you want to attend, tickets are still available! The event is at Union Station and includes dinner, drinks, silent & live auction, raffle, and music – all for just $75.)

Taking a photo from this angle while painting your toenails is much more difficult that you might think.

Day 312: My Trek is Crying

We’ve only been in our new place for a few days, so we haven’t found a good place to store our bikes yet. It makes me cringe to think that my beautiful bike spent the last two days outside in the rain. I need to clean and oil the chain and find a protected spot for it pronto!

Days 307-311: The Start Of A New Chapter

Whew … I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The move to our new apartment is complete; now we just have to finish unpacking. Here are photos from the last several days throughout the move.

We signed the lease Thursday evening and did some thorough cleaning before moving in furniture.

Thanks to this moving truck and the help of Jerod's family, we were able to move everything in one trip on Friday.

We spent Saturday priming and cleaning our old apartment, thanks to the help of my sister and nephew. I love this scene - three people cleaning my bathroom. Notice we gave the toilet cleaning job to my 8-year-old nephew.

On Sunday we took our washer and dryer to my sister's place since our new apartment provides them. My nephew was a big help.

Aside from a new air filter, our old apartment sat empty on Monday.

Day 306: Counting Down the Hours

We’re now less than 24-hours away from moving. I cannot say I’m excited about the move, but I am excited to be finished! Our place is a wreck. I’ll be MIA for a few days until we get settled, but I’ll continue taking photos throughout the move.

This lightless, shadeless lamp is just one of our many possessions ready to be moved.

Day 305: Go Chiefs?

I may not be a huge football fan, but I am proud of the Kansas City Chiefs after their Monday Night Football win against the Chargers, ranking them first in the division. I think I got that right. I guess someone (or lots of someones) was even more excited than I was – this downtown building was lit up in Chiefs colors Tuesday morning.

Day 302: A Fabulous Finale to Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Saturday morning was the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk in Kansas City, and I was honored to take photos at the event. This year we had 10,000 walkers and raised over $325,000 – a new record for KC! This event is so much more than a walk. You can also experience a photo booth, live band, and survivor speakers; and take home a survivor gift and information about Society services. I took about 300 photos – here are just a few of my favorites.

Days 303-304: Tricks & Treats

Since we don’t get trick-or-treaters at our apartment, we were happy to help out with Trunk or Treat at our church yesterday evening. I loved seeing all the creative costumes. And today our American Cancer Society office was transformed into the American Zombie Society for a Halloween luncheon. We ate brains (a potato bar) and learned all about how to survive a Zombie Apocalypse.

(FYI: Saturday’s photos will be posted in a day or two – I have about 250 photos from Making Strides Against Breast Cancer to sort through!)

Platte Woods United Methodist had hundreds of trick-or-treaters at their annual Trunk or Treat. This kid with his homemade R2-D2 costume, complete with blinking lights, was by far my favorite.

Day 301: All Hallow’s Eve Eve

I snapped this photo Friday evening of one of my favorite Halloween decorations. I think I like decorating for Halloween almost as much as Christmas! It’s too bad I had to pack up the decorations early since we’re moving on Friday.
