Despite off and on rain all day, we had so much fun at the St. Louis Zoo last weekend. Lil’ Miss K absolutely loved the train and the carousel. The best part about the zoo – it’s free! Tip: parking is $15, but if you get there early, there’s on-street parking only about a block farther away.

Missouri Botanical Garden
After a couple of posts of portrait sessions I did this weekend, I’m back to sharing photos from our St. Louis weekend getaway. I had a hard time not publishing all of my photos from the Missouri Botanical Garden. It’s such a beautiful place! We got there an hour and a half before it closed, which wasn’t nearly enough time. But we enjoyed trekking our way around the grounds and looking at the Chinese Lantern Festival displays, which would have been even more gorgeous if we’d had time to visit at night.
Portrait Session | Addison’s Family
We made the best of the 97 degree heat yesterday during this family photo shoot. Two-year-old Addison has a mind of her own, but she’s so darn cute, I couldn’t help but smile as she continuously wandered off, especially when she stopped to smell the roses. Literally! What a cutie! I love this family to death and I’m so happy they allowed me to shoot their family portraits. The last photo is my favorite, hands down.
Portrait Session | Miss Sophia
I couldn’t wait to get home and start editing photos from this afternoon’s photo session with sweet Sophia! She was so energetic, cooperative, and adorable. Of course, we met on the hottest day of the year thus far, but we tried to stay out of the sun as much as we could. We did her photo shoot at one of my favorite locations – the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Take a look back at the photos I took of her when she was just a baby!
St. Louis Vacation | Gateway Arch
My husband, Lil’ Miss K, and I took a short weekend getaway to St. Louis last weekend. Lil’ Miss K had a great time exploring the Gateway Arch, Missouri Botanical Gardens, St. Louis Zoo, and World Bird Sanctuary. She got a bit tired and grumpy on our last day, but overall she was a great traveler. She isn’t one to sleep in our arms or in a stroller anymore, so she was go-go-go the entire time!
Here are a few photos of the arch. The first two give you a perspective of what it looks like inside, and the second two are two photos I tried to shoot at a non-cliche angle. More photos to come once I have time to sort through them.
Photo of the Day: Sixteen Months Old
Lil’ Miss K turned sixteen months old on Monday! I’m a couple days late taking photos, but better late than never. She has the “Rhodes eyebrow scowl” in the first photo. See how she’s changed since last month.
Relay For Life – A Celebration of Hope
Friday night was my 6th annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life. I look forward to the Relay event every year, but for some reason, I was even more excited this year. From watching survivors walk the track, to a silent auction and fun on-site fundraisers, to a beautiful luminaria ceremony, I’m always crying and laughing by the end of the night. My 15-month old daughter had a blast running around the track and field – she didn’t crash until almost midnight! This year our team has raised just over $2,800 for the American Cancer Society, but of course we’re still accepting donations! I’d love to reach $3,000. Here is where the money goes.
Photo of the Day: Orange Star Flower
I’m in love with this beautiful new addition to our dining room! It’s called an orange star flower, and and I believe it originates from Africa. According to one website, it can be planted outside in zones 7-11. I live in northern Missouri, which I believe is more like a zone 6 – can anyone confirm? Will this plant die outside in the summer, or will it just not come back next year?
