I just returned from a ladies weekend a the Lake of the Ozarks. We had a great time relaxing at a condo, visiting a winery, and doing some outlet mall shopping. The view of the lake is so pretty, even in the winter!
What do hockey teams and fighting cancer have in common? They both have a desire to kick butt! Saturday evening was the annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Night at the Missouri Mavericks hockey game. We had a great time with family & friends supporting a cause near and dear to our hearts. This will be the third Thanksgiving and Christmas without my aunt, but I don’t think the holidays have gotten any easier for my family. She’s greatly missed … we’ll continue this in her honor.
This Sunday I took family portraits for some of my favorite people: my cousin, her husband, and their five kids. And I now have a favorite place to shoot portraits … Parkville, MO. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the town, but the huge park, river, quaint downtown, railroad tracks, and beautiful Park University all make great backdrops.
Last week was so busy, from a Fountain City Brass Band concert, to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, to my wedding anniversary. I haven’t had time to sort through many photos yet, so I’m posting a photo from our quick anniversary self-portrait photo session. We try to take photos every year on our anniversary, so we’ll be able to go back and see how we’ve changed from year-to-year. I don’t think we’ve changed too much yet. 🙂 These will serve as our Christmas photos, too.

Thursday evening I ventured out around sunset to capture some photos. I was feeling down on luck when a baby calf and pony weren’t in a field I’d seen them in earlier in the week, so I shot some disappointing photos of corn fields. And then … I came upon this. Perfection.
I spent some time this past week taking photos around the city. I’m adding to my portfolio so I can sell prints on etsy.com. I’m not in the business to make a profit. I am donating 100% of proceeds from these prints to the 2012 American Cancer Society Relay For Life. My goal this year is to raise $500. I was beyond excited when the SEALife Aquarium opened in Kansas City just a few weeks ago. Considering I live in almost the most landlocked city in the United States, this was a big deal. So visiting it this weekend was a great way to celebrate my birthday with family. (A friend of mine just took her one-year-old daughter to the aquarium for her birthday, too. I wonder what having the same birthday party as a one-year-old says about me?) I had a great time taking photos, but as usual, I couldn’t narrow it down to just one. Do you have a favorite?
I try not to post too many sunrise/sunset photos, but I just couldn’t resist this one. After working on sermon slides at church Thursday evening, I left just minutes before the sun sank below the horizon. Besides adding my watermark, this photo has not been edited. The colors were truly that beautiful. What a blessing!
The nearby town of Parkville, Missouri is getting ready for the floods as the Missouri river continues to rise. Last night we visited English Landing Park near the river, and the water was definitely up and covering at least one road so far. We weren’t the only ones out – the park was bustling with people. I’m not sure if they were all gawkers like us, or if that many people usually visit the park on a gray and windy almost-summer evening.
