… is a world with more birthdays. Last week I was asked to photograph the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Kickoff Breakfast in Kansas City. It was held at Arrowhead Stadium and it’s a great cause, so I was happy to help out. Making Strides is an American Cancer Society 5k walk benefiting breast cancer. There are events all across the country, so if breast cancer is something you’re passionate about, check out makingstrideswalk.org.
Thanks to some friends of ours, we had the opportunity to experience a Kansas City Royals game up close and personal Friday night – just four rows behind the dugout! Sometimes I zone out during baseball games … but not with seats like these! (I won’t mention who won the game.)
Here are a couple of shots from the streets of the Kansas City Crossroads Arts District during First Fridays. I’ve decided it’s the best place in the city for street photography, so if I’m brave enough I’ll go back for the sole purpose of practicing this fascinating genre of photography.

In an effort to populate my etsy site with Kansas City photographic prints, I took some photos of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception this week. It’s not quite like the cathedrals I saw a year ago in Italy, but it’s still a beautiful structure.

We almost got arrested for this shot. Ok, maybe I’m exaggerating a little, but we did get yelled at very sternly by a cop with a megaphone. The scolding was well worth the photo, because this is my husband right after graduating with his Master of Education degree from Rockhurst University on Saturday. I couldn’t be more proud! We had a fantastic day with family and lots of friends at a surprise graduation party afterward. A good friend of ours made the amazing cupcakes below – aren’t they perfect?

I spent some time this past week taking photos around the city. I’m adding to my portfolio so I can sell prints on etsy.com. I’m not in the business to make a profit. I was beyond excited when the SEALife Aquarium opened in Kansas City just a few weeks ago. Considering I live in almost the most landlocked city in the United States, this was a big deal. So visiting it this weekend was a great way to celebrate my birthday with family. (A friend of mine just took her one-year-old daughter to the aquarium for her birthday, too. I wonder what having the same birthday party as a one-year-old says about me?) I had a great time taking photos, but as usual, I couldn’t narrow it down to just one. Do you have a favorite?
Since the weather has been so nice {and unseasonably warm}, I’ve done a lot of walking and exploring downtown lately. This is one of my favorite shots from last week.
A big tradition in Kansas City is our St. Paddy’s Day Parade, and since it fell on a Saturday this year, we were actually able to go. One of the best places to people watch, and practice street photography, is at a parade. You can always get great pictures of the floats, cars, bands, horses, and people marching in the parade – but even better, in my opinion, is the crowd shots.
