Days 257-259: Keep Austin Weird

I traveled to Austin, Texas this week for work. I didn’t carry my camera with me everywhere, but I did manage to continue taking photos every day. We stayed right on the beautiful Lady Bird Lake. Had I hauled my DSLR camera with me on my morning run around the lake, I could have gotten lots of fabulous photos – from swarms of bats, to hundreds of runners, to a beautiful sunrise. I truly love the vibe of this city.

Congress Avenue Bridge at night. Thousands of bats live under this bridge and come out at dusk, but I was never around to see it.
This bike (the kind with a motor) was built for Lance Armstrong during the American Chopper TV show. It’s now displayed at the Livestrong Foundation, which we toured on Wednesday.

Day 195: Fuel For Life

These are some of the many snacks we’ve prepared for our “Fuel Station” at Relay For Life. We’re selling trail mix, granola bars, Gatorade, and baked goods. By the way, our team name is Dukes of Hazzard, and the event is themed “Revin’ For a Cure,” so I think Fuel Station is the perfect name for our snack spot.

Day 181: Bachelorettes

For the second year in a row, I took photos of the American Cancer Society Bachelor Auction committee. I love taking photos of these ladies, because they’re so great at posing themselves!

Day 165: Bumping up with Bunco

Last night my cousin Holly and I hosted our 2nd Annual Bunco for Relay night. We had a great turnout with 28 people, we ate a lot of food and had a great time socializing. But best of all, we raised $442 for our Relay For Life team! We’re moving up toward our $5,000 goal!

Ladies play Bunco at our Relay For Life Fundraiser. I never knew how hard it was to photograph a dice game in low light until last night!

Day 134: Sniffing (and Sniffling)

My Relay For Life teammate Mandy hosted a Scentsy party yesterday to raise money for the American Cancer Society. We had a lot of fun smelling all the scents, but the most touching part was hearing how cancer has affected so many of us. We’ve raised about $300 so far (with a goal of $500) selling Scentsy products! If you buy them here, 20% goes toward Relay.

Day 133: Healthy Choices

On Friday my office celebrated Choose You Day, an American Cancer Society movement that encourages people to put their own health first in the fight against cancer. We took a walk over our lunch hour and encouraged people to take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Day 131: Plant It Pink

Yesterday we celebrated the kick-off to Plant It Pink in my office – an American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network initiative for people to join ACS CAN and order pink tulip bulbs. ACS CAN is the Society’s sister advocacy organization, and if you join you get the opportunity to email (or call, or visit) your government officials to advocate for more cancer research funding, smoke-free laws, etc. Not surprisingly, the media was about 30 minutes late to the event, so they got some lovely shots of our display table.

Day 18: Celebrate.Remember.Fight Back.

Last night I attended a Relay For Life kick-off party to get my team ready for a successful Relay season. This will be my third year doing Relay, my second year as a team captain, and hopefully my first year to reach a team fundraising goal of $5000! They had lots of information about Relay For Life and American Cancer Society research, education, patient services, and advocacy efforts. I’m proud to work for such an honorable organization.
