Day 103: Let us thank Him for our food

When I got home yesterday afternoon, this amazing box of fresh, organic produce was waiting at our doorstep. Thanks to Groupon, I got this box from Door to Door Organics for just $13! Now I just have to figure out what I can do with kale. Any suggestions?

Day 101: Breaking Bread

My friend Tekia has an incredible catering opportunity coming up. It’s called Breaking Bread: A Soul Food Communion, which is part of The Dining Room Project: Art, Food, & The Ritual of Eating. Breaking Bread will be a buffet style meal based on family recipes. The event will also feature works of art by John C. Sutton III and Beth Nybeck. Below is a photo of Tekia with her newly acquired piece of art depicting the soul food experience, by the very talented Sutton. I’m very excited to experience this event in a couple of weeks!

Sealed With a T | Logo Design

I recently designed a logo for my friend Tekia, an up-and-coming comfort food caterer in Kansas City. I met with her to discuss ideas, inspiration, colors, and wording before coming up with a few rough samples to choose from.

Next, she narrowed down the fonts, colors, and design details she liked.

A few proofs later, she chose this design! Contact me if you’d like help with your design project.

Days 99-100: A warm, relaxing weekend

I think we jumped straight from winter to summer in the last few days. I absolutely loved spending so much time outside this weekend. We rode bikes, grilled, enjoyed a couple meals on the patio, and hung out with friends – all outdoors!

Day 98: In the Red

Friday night Jerod and I went to see the 10:30 showing of Cabaret at the KC Repetory Theatre. The show started so late because they had their annual gala that evening. We didn’t realize the gala would be in the atrium of the theatre until we squeezed our way past the guests, feeling severely underdressed. It was my first time at a gala, even if I didn’t belong. They definitely go all out with decorations!

Day 97: Scentsy makes perfect scents!

This week I hosted a Scentsy party at work as a Relay For Life fundraiser, with 20% of the sales going to cancer. Scentsy products are scented wax warmers (a safer alternative to candles). And do they smell fantastic! These little circles are testers – only a handful of the 88 scents available. And here’s my plug – if you’d like to support the American Cancer Society and place an order, just go here and click on Relay For Life fundraiser on the left. Thank you!

Day 96: “Trainquil” morning

Sometimes your plans don’t always turn out how you’d hoped. I got up early with the intent of driving downtown for a nighttime skyline photo. I guess 5:45 a.m. wasn’t early enough with the days getting longer, because the sun was already rising when I arrived. My skyline photos were gray and dull. But when I looked in the other direction, I saw this beautiful, tranquil morning scene.

Day 95: Why I Vote

Have you ever seen the movie Iron Jawed Angels? It’s a documentary about the women’s suffrage movement, and the risks these women took to fight for our right to vote. They sacrificed their health, marriages, freedom, and lives for us. After seeing that movie, I never want to take that right for granted. So I did my research and got up extra early to cast my ballot yesterday morning.
