I may not be a huge football fan, but I am proud of the Kansas City Chiefs after their Monday Night Football win against the Chargers, ranking them first in the division. I think I got that right. I guess someone (or lots of someones) was even more excited than I was – this downtown building was lit up in Chiefs colors Tuesday morning.
Day 302: A Fabulous Finale to Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Saturday morning was the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk in Kansas City, and I was honored to take photos at the event. This year we had 10,000 walkers and raised over $325,000 – a new record for KC! This event is so much more than a walk. You can also experience a photo booth, live band, and survivor speakers; and take home a survivor gift and information about Society services. I took about 300 photos – here are just a few of my favorites.
Days 303-304: Tricks & Treats
Since we don’t get trick-or-treaters at our apartment, we were happy to help out with Trunk or Treat at our church yesterday evening. I loved seeing all the creative costumes. And today our American Cancer Society office was transformed into the American Zombie Society for a Halloween luncheon. We ate brains (a potato bar) and learned all about how to survive a Zombie Apocalypse.
(FYI: Saturday’s photos will be posted in a day or two – I have about 250 photos from Making Strides Against Breast Cancer to sort through!)
Day 301: All Hallow’s Eve Eve
I snapped this photo Friday evening of one of my favorite Halloween decorations. I think I like decorating for Halloween almost as much as Christmas! It’s too bad I had to pack up the decorations early since we’re moving on Friday.
Day 301: A Color Debate
This is the Broadway Bridge on the north side of downtown. I know the colored lights have been added this month to promote Breast Cancer Awareness month, but don’t you think they look more like Halloween lights?

Day 300: A week full of surprises
When we got home yesterday evening, we had package of homemade Halloween cookies waiting for us in the mailbox. And they were still in once piece! Thanks to my thoughtful family for including us when we couldn’t be there for the cookie decorating. Have I mentioned how much I love this time of year? 🙂
Day 299: Blustry Day
Yesterday started out unseasonably warm, but you could tell a cold front was moving in just by looking at the trees whipping in the wind.
Days 296-298: Celebrating the best day ever
Yesterday Jerod and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary. We also celebrated a little on Sunday … and on Saturday … but there’s no shame in celebrating the happiest day of your life! On Saturday we went to the Steamboat Arabia museum, the Blue Nile Ethiopian restaurant, and the Kansas City ballet. The highlight was the ballet at the beautiful new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. It’s an architectural masterpiece. On Sunday we did lots of packing and took a little time out to reminisce over our wedding photos. And yesterday after work, we went out to eat and to a movie. We also received a great surprise gift from my parents. I think celebrating anniversaries is even more fun than celebrating birthdays, because you get to share the joy with someone you love.
Day 295: They grow up too fast
One of my closest friends lives across the country, but I’m lucky that she travels back home frequently. Even when I see her every couple of months, her baby girl looks so different each time. Here are photo #1 and photo #2 from earlier this year.
Day 294: On the Horizon
I’ve been looking forward to posting this photo all day. This lookout point may be my new favorite spot, because the views of downtown Kansas City are just perfect – especially at sunset. The color has not been altered.
