Family Portraits – Green Space

What a difference half a year can make! I took this family’s photos back in November, and I’m honored they asked me to do them again this summer. Little Oliver has changed so much! We tried out a new photo spot – Penguin Park in North KC. Not only is there a fun playground – there’s a lake with geese! I love how easy this family is to work with, and I can’t wait to finish editing the rest of their photos.

Relay For Life 2016

Saturday night was my 7th American Cancer Society Relay For Life event. I love Relay for so many reasons – from the cause, to the camaraderie, to the symbolism. A few of this year’s highlights:

  • I had the biggest team to date, with 30 people representing Team Dukes.
  • Our team raised over $3,000 – approximately $27,000 over the last six years!
  • I’m proud to say we had a breast cancer survivor on our team this year!
  • My husband made a couple of awesome light-up signs for our team – one we carried around as we walked the track for eight hours.
  • Thanks in part to all of the above, our team won the Spirit of Relay award!
  • My thoughtful team gave me a framed, signed print and a pedicure thanking me for being team captain (even though I couldn’t do it without them).
  • My 2-year-old stayed up until 1 a.m., playing hard around the track, in the long jump sand pit, and in the bounce house. She was a crazy, fun, hot mess!

Happy birthday, Grandma!

Today is my grandma’s 92nd birthday! She lives on the other side of the state, but luckily we had time to make the long round-trip drive yesterday to wish her a happy birthday. I’m glad she did – she was all smiles!

Downtown KC Portraits

I had the pleasure of photographing this fun mama and her four spunky kids last weekend. We did something completely different – starting in downtown Kansas City’s Rivermarket and taking the new (free!) street car to the Crossroads to shoot more photos there. We even got a shot on the street car! I would love to shoot senior portraits all along the street car route. Class of 2017: who’s with me?

Photo of the Day: 2.33 years old

After posting photos of Lil’ Miss K monthly for the first two years of her life, I decided to switch to recording once every three months. But then I forgot…so now we’re doing once every four months. My, how she’s changed since her second birthday!

Speaking of change, I’ve been a little MIA lately. Between a vacation to Peru, a new job, several portrait sessions, and preparing for Relay For Life, I’ve been busy – to say the least! And each one of those deserves it’s own blog post. Stay tuned!

Family Portraits, Happy Rock Trail

We had perfect weather yesterday evening for family portraits! You’d never guess it, but this mamma of two boys was nervous about them not sitting still and posing for photos. Don’t they look like sweet angels? Well, they are, but they’re also very busy. But that’s normal and that’s ok! We made it fun by moving around and making silly faces…and still got great photos.

Family Portrats – Liberty Memorial

I loved working with this family last fall, and I couldn’t be happier that they asked me to do their extended family portraits this spring! Kansas City’s Liberty Memorial is a great place for photos – the obvious iconic memorial, the city skyline, the steps and stone, and the greenery offer a ton of variety. I was pumped that they had a few of their own ideas for fun poses. And what’s not to love about mint green Chuck Taylor’s?
