Note card design | Prayer Shawl Ministry

Broadway United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Mo. offers a unique prayer shawl ministry. Volunteers at the church sitch prayer shawls and prayer pockets to give to those in need of prayer – whether it be after the loss of a loved one, during and after surgery, or even after giving birth. I had the pleasure of working with Joyce at Broadway UMC to create a few note card designs to give with the prayer shawls. Below are three designs for the front of the note cards.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

I helped take photos at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer kick-off breakfast on Aug. 26 in Kansas City. It was a great event – and based on the turnout, I know the American Cancer Society will have a great Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in October! If you would like to get involved, visit www.makingstrideskansascity.org.

Farmland | A Tribute to Buck

I have some unfortunate news: my husband’s grandfather (Buck) passed away a week ago. We traveled to Southeast Kansas for his funeral on Wednesday, and for the first time Jerod took me to see his grandparents’ farm. They live on beautiful land, so I couldn’t resist taking a few photos. We picked some vegetables from his grandpa’s garden, too. I know he and his garden will be greatly missed; he was always generous with sharing his veggies and anything else his family, friends, and neighbors needed.

Omaha and the Zoo

We traveled to Omaha, Nebraska last weekend for a short trip, and we had a great time at the zoo! Downtown Omaha is such a fun place, with the zoo, Old Market, Omaha Union Station, the Riverfront, and so much more!

Animals!

One of my other passions besides photography is animals. If I didn’t completely love them, I would have gotten rid of my red-eared sliders in their two 35-gallon tanks long ago. (See below.)

Ducks live at our apartment complex, and they love to play in the mud!

This is our sweet cat, Esme. (Ez-May) We stole the name from the “Twilight” series.

I guess she’s not always sweet. She plays rough!

My two turtles, Michaelangelo and Leonardo, are quickly growing to the size of a dinner plate. When I bought them in college, they were the no bigger than a quarter, and they were swimming around with hundreds of other little guys in a mall aquarium. I felt sorry for them, and the salesman said they wouldn’t grow bigger than my hand. I quickly discovered his lie as soon as I walked into PetSmart with the little creatures and heard gasps from the associates. “You know how big they get, right?” Well, I do now.

This may not be the best photo I’ve ever taken, but it shows the daily battle between my pets.

Free photo book!

I’m giving away a FREE 20-page 8×8 photobook from Shutterfly. (Book must be ordered by April 28.) All you have to do is post a comment to the question below before midnight tonight (April 20). Make sure you include your email address so I know how to contact you. I will draw names at random tomorrow morning and give the winner the promo code so they can start designing their book!

What do you look for when considering a portrait photographer? (Price, quality of photos, types of packages, creativity, personality, etc.)

GF Services | Logo & Business Card Design

I spent the last couple weeks working with a family friend on his new small business identity. A local printer gave him two sub par business card proofs, so he turned to me for some creative ideas. A few proofs later, he now has his own logo and business cards.

After brainstorming his likes and dislikes, I gave him 12 different logo designs.

He picked his top 3, so I created 3 business card samples.

These are the final results!

If you would like to work with me on your graphic design needs, the process will be similar to the one outlined above. Contact me for pricing and details.

Photo Essay of Vernon

As a continuation of my grandfather’s photo essay, here are just a few more from the holidays.

My husband and I visited Grandpa to give him a small gift – a wedding photo of us.

He took his time and opened it very carefully.

He studied it …

And he finally gave us a little smile.

Although his Alzheimer’s prevents him from talking much, it’s obvious that things like this brighten his day. He didn’t want to let go of the photo when we left, so we let him keep a hold of it instead of hanging it on the wall.
