Day 7: Dirty Jobs

Every couple of months we have the joy of cleaning out our turtle tanks. I say “tanks,” because they started biting each other a few years ago so I had to separate them. Now I have two of everything, so it’s double the work to clean the tanks. What a fun way to spend Friday night, right? P.S. If you’ve never seen my turtles before, check out the April 2010 archive.

Photo 1:
I begin by scraping the algae off the basking ledges.
Photo 2: Next I get to clean out their water filters.
Photo 3: Last night we had a little accident. We had the water heaters laying on the floor with the power strip off, but someone (ahem, a turtle or cat) walked over the switch and turned it on. A few minutes later I smelled something burning and ran into the room to find the carpet burned all the way to the mat. Anyone know how to repair this? If not…there goes our deposit.
Photo 4: About 2 hours later, we finally finish filling the tanks. (And of course we have to thoroughly clean the bathroom.)

Day 5: Urban Commuter

It’s funny the things you start noticing when you carry your camera everywhere. I’ve walked past this Vespa near work every day for months, yet I never really thought twice about it. But now that I think about it, wouldn’t it be fun to have one to buzz around town?

Day 2: Old Friends

Jerod and I just returned from the airport to send off his friend Brad, who is in the Navy and currently stationed in Japan. Brad is one of those guys who always has exciting stories to tell, and they’re actually real. After all, he flies F18s off an aircraft carrier for a living. We didn’t have much time with him, so we just chatted for a few minutes and snapped a quick picture in an airport bar before he headed out.

Day 1: New Beginnings

This year I plan to do the 365 day photography project by taking at least one good photo each day (and attempting to post them on my blog daily, or at least almost daily). I celebrated New Year’s Eve with some of my closest friends, and I think this photo represents new beginnings for the new year just perfectly. Here is Mommy, Daddy, and baby “Blueberry,” due in April. I can’t wait to take more photos of the family!

Holiday Cards from Shutterfly

We’re quickly approaching the time of year when a lot of us start ordering holiday cards. Even if you didn’t get your holiday photos taken with me (and you still have time), I would like to recommend the company we order our photo cards from: Shutterfly. They have a huge variety of designs to choose from. Last year Jerod and I ordered a classy black card with one of our wedding photos. This year, I’m thinking of tackling outdoor self-portraits. I’ve been looking through the Shutterfly photo cards, and I can’t decide between the following four designs. They’re all so different!

This whimsical, casual design…

This stylish card, which really emphasizes the photo …

This cute design with several photos (I can picture something like a series of photo booth type pictures)…

This fun design, which incorporates my favorite color: blue!

Which one do you think we should order? What would YOU order? You know what’s even better? We get 50 FREE photo cards this year! Find out how you can too.

Grand Canyon | October 2010

I’m finally getting around to posting photos from our desert Southwest trip we took about a month ago. I had a really hard time narrowing it down from 500 to 15 for this blog post!

This was taken on an accidental 65-mile detour trying to view Castle Rock. We ended up driving through the La Sal mountain range after taking a wrong turn. (You can see Castle Rock way off in the distance.)

Taken at Dead Horse Point State Park.

At the top of Whale Rock in Canyonlands National Park.

My husband Jerod on a hike in Canyonlands National Park. He likes to get as close as possible to the edge of the cliff.

Whitewater raft trip in Westwater Canyon. (Obviously in the calm part of the river.)

Beautiful view from Red Cliffs Lodge in Moab, UT. Our cabin was about 50 years away from here.

Another view from Red Cliffs Lodge.

Beautiful rock formations in Arches National Park.

The Fiery Furnace section of Arches National Park requires a permit beyond the fence because there are dead-end canyons where you could get lost.

Skyline Arch – half of the middle section fell out only about 60 years ago (very recent in rock formation years).

I think this is the South Window arch.

Unfortunately it was cloudy and rainy while we were at the Grand Canyon, but we did see a beautiful rainbow …

… and a beautiful sunset. What a great way to end our trip!
