We had a very busy 4th of July weekend, from Theatre in the Park in Shawnee, to a family celebration in Cherryvale, to hanging out in Louisburg, to the Corporate Woods fireworks display in Overland Park. There were plenty of great photo ops over the last several days. And…I’ve passed the halfway point for my 365 Day Photography Project!
For the second year in a row, I took photos of the American Cancer Society Bachelor Auction committee. I love taking photos of these ladies, because they’re so great at posing themselves!
We have a monthly Make ‘N Take over our lunch hour at work, which usually consists of designing greeting cards and other crafts. But this month we tried something new … my friend and chef-in-the-making Tekia hosted a foodie Make ‘N Take! She taught us how to make spring rolls filled with fresh veggies, chicken, and shrimp. They were so tasty and fun to put together, I may have to make them again at home!
Here sit my empty flower pots on the patio, because last week when I went to a nearby nursery, they had just cleared out their summer flowers. I blame it on being gone for half the month of May, but it was probably just procrastination.
Yesterday morning started out with strong thunderstorms and eery-looking clouds, then the sun shone for just a bit, but then back to more clouds. I’m sure all this rain isn’t helping the nearby floods.
Despite the stormy, hot weather, it was a good weekend. On Saturday morning Jerod, Callie, and I went to Camp Courage, a camp for adults with special needs, to help with a booth for their carnival. And on Sunday we celebrated my grandma’s 87th birthday by taking her lunch and cake and watching the Royals. (By the way, the cake in the photo is cake #2. Cake #1 went in the trash can when I didn’t hear the timer go off and burnt it to a crisp. I took the ‘DO NOT OVERCOOK’ warning label on the angel food cake package to heart.) I think both of these photos illustrate that sometimes the simplest things in life make us the happiest.
I saw this unique leaf walking into work yesterday morning. I have no idea what the little bumpy things are, but they sure look cool! God is so creative.
The weather was gorgeous yesterday evening, so we took a picnic and a blanket to the Zona Rosa shopping center for Jazz on the Square. Our entertainment wasn’t only the musicians but the kids playing in the fountain. It was fun to see what all the kids would do with the water – splash it, kick it (pictured), sit on it, lay on it, run through it, jump in it, jump around it … I could go on forever.
Last night Jerod and I went for a walk to enjoy the slightly cooler than normal weather. Flowers, sun, and … bugs? Definitely signs that summer is here!
Yesterday may have been the first day of summer, but it wasn’t your typical sunny, warm day. We’ve had storms off and on for the last several days.
