My good friend Lindsey and her husband Aaron welcomed their first baby boy into the world on Tuesday. I had the pleasure of hanging out with Lindsey and baby Colton at the hospital Wednesday evening. He has the most gorgeous deep blue eyes and blonde hair. Once you meet him you don’t want to take your eyes off him!

Project 52 Week 9: The Biggest Loser
If you’re a fan of the television show The Biggest Loser, than you probably recognize the guy standing with my husband below. That is Patrick House, Season 10 winner of the Biggest Loser. I liked him on the show, and I like him even more in person. Last week he came to a Kansas City YMCA for a ‘meet and greet’ and a short workout. We happened to get there early (and so did he), so we got some one-on-one time with him. How cool is that? We learned all about his new life after winning the show, his family, his nutrition regimen, what the show is really like. (Some things would surprise you!) I asked him to sign a poster I designed with the quote below, and it’s now framed and hanging in my bedroom.

Project 52 Week 8: A Change In Scenery
My husband and I spent part of the weekend visiting his family in Southeast Kansas, which is quite a change in scenery from our daily life in Kansas City. Rural life lends itself to some great photographic opportunities, so we took the 4-wheeler out to explore the pasture and watch the cows. I love how they follow you with their curious eyes.
Project 52 Week 7: Cheap Entertainment
My cat Esme’s new favorite toy is a milk ring. She will play fetch with it over, and over, and over. And over again. She also loves to hide it under rugs and dig it back out. Eventually she chews it up, but once the milk’s gone, she always has a new free toy! Cheap entertainment for her – and for us.
Project 52 Week 6: Birthday Balloons
This weekend we celebrated my cousin’s baby’s first birthday. Baby Blake One Year Ago. All of their friends and family have little ones, so I had a hard time picking out just one photo amongst all of the cuties. Ultimately I chose this photo of cousin Devon, because of the awesome static hair and the lighting. What do you think?
Project 52 Week 5: Penalty
What is it with ice hockey and fights? Sometimes I wonder if they’re really that much more angry than other athletes. Either way, it makes for an entertaining sport. We had a great time watching the Missouri Mavericks smear the Arizona Sundogs Saturday night. Best of all – the proceeds from our tickets went to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network – a cause dear to my heart.

Project 52 Week 4: Survival of the Fittest
We passed by lots of open fields driving to Topeka, Kansas this weekend, as I’m sure you can imagine. I’d seen this silo with a tree growing out of it several times in the past, so I had big plans to stop and take photos. I finally decided to tell my husband about these plans after we got on the road. I guess he’s used to my odd photography requests by now, because he didn’t think twice about it. When we approached the silo, he graciously pulled off the highway and even trudged through a dead corn field with me. I seem to pick the coldest, windiest days to take photos, and Saturday was no exception. But I think the end result was worth it.
Project 52 Week 3: #IAmBlessed
I try not to post too many sunrise/sunset photos, but I just couldn’t resist this one. After working on sermon slides at church Thursday evening, I left just minutes before the sun sank below the horizon. Besides adding my watermark, this photo has not been edited. The colors were truly that beautiful. What a blessing!
Project 52 Week 2: Modern Marvel
One of my New Year’s resolutions this year is to have a weekly date night with my husband. So after excellent food and drinks at Snow & Company, I shot some night photos of the new Kansas City modern marvel: the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. It just happened to be the coldest day of the year; with the wind whipping and snow just minutes from falling.

This photo was taken at our friend Christa’s wedding this weekend. It was a beautiful and touching ceremony, from the tears that were shed to the classy red and black colors. And most importantly; the bride and groom were both glowing all night!
