Family Portraits | Sweet Pups

One of my favorite portrait sessions each year is this family – because they let me shoot and design their humorous Christmas cards! They always have the most creative ideas. I can’t show their card just yet, but I did want to share a couple of photos of them. They are the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and their dogs are seriously adorable, sweet, and so well-behaved.

Save

To be Two…

Oh, to be two and carefree again … I love the joy in my Lil’ Miss K’s face every time we go to the park. It’s about to turn cold here, so I probably won’t be taking any more of these photos for a few months.

Happy Halloween!

This little one doesn’t like getting dressed up. She doesn’t like things on her head. She doesn’t like fancy dresses. She barely lets me put her hair up. But after showing her Wizard of Oz music on YouTube, doing a “practice round” of trick-or-treating at a Friday night Trunk-or-Treat, she had a great time dressing up in her Dorothy costume and visiting our neighbors tonight! More candy? Yes, please!

Portrait Session | Wild, Wild “West”

I had a great time taking photos of this wild & fun family in Kansas City’s West Bottoms this weekend. I’ve shot portraits there three times so far, and every time the backdrop has been completely different and unique. It continues to be a favorite spot of mine! This portrait session was won in a Relay For Life silent auction. I love doing photography for a good cause – and there’s no better cause than fighting cancer – something that touches us all. Bonus: this family was so great to work with…not to mention so photogenic!

Photo of the Day: Two and Three Quarters

My Lil’ Miss K is just 4 months away from being 3 years old. Hard to believe she’s closer to 3 than she is to 2. I love how much she talks – we have real, back-and-forth, conversations all the time. I also love some of the words she mispronounces – “chlocate” instead of “chocolate,” “hangaber” instead of “hamburger,” “cup-ul-der” instead of “cup holder.” I need to write all these cute little things down so I never forget. I see the wheels turning in her brain every day as she learns something new. Love it!

See how she’s changed since her last photo 4 months ago. (She’s still a tomboy who loves her tennis shoes and hates her hair in piggy tails.)

Best. Engagement. Ever. (Except mine, of course)

This past Sunday was a special day for a special couple. Our worship leader pulled me aside about a week ago, asking if I could bring my camera to church on Sunday. Of course! At the end of the service, he announced his girlfriend’s birthday (also in the praise band) and started singing, “I wanna grow old with you” from The Wedding Singer. By the time he got down on one knee, I’m pretty sure the entire congregation was in tears. I’m so happy I got to take part in such a memorable moment.

Brighter Future, Better Kansas City

This weekend I had the privilege of photographing Donnelly College’s 10th annual SHINE gala, held at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs. Our advancement team started the day early, with a quick break for a stadium tour before guests started arriving. (In addition to photography, I also designed the invitations, program, signage, slideshow, and more.) The evening included lots of mingling, excellent hors d’oeuvres, a program featuring student and alumni panelists, and a time to raise more funds to keep costs down for underserved students. It was an incredible evening, and I’m so happy I had the chance to capture it!
