I won’t even express my opinion about yesterday’s snow and the eight more inches expected to pound Kansas City tomorrow. At the end of March. During Spring. Ok, maybe there was a little bit of opinion in that statement. But here’s a photo of beautiful spring daffodils … in the snow.
Yesterday evening I drove home during a winter storm with huge snowflakes. In a matter of minutes, the ground was covered. (Don’t worry Dad, this was taken at a red light.)

I took this photo a year ago on my in-laws’ land in Southeast Kansas. I chose not to use it as the photo of the week merely because I liked this photo better. Looking back, it is a pretty impressive tree.
It may be a gnarly tree in the winter, but this tree probably looks pretty impressive when its leaves grow.
This was taken January 2011 at my former apartment, where the resident ducks always swarmed me in the winter, looking for a much-needed bite of food. (Click the shutter, throw the bread, click the shutter…)
On Saturday morning my husband and three of our friends ran in the Kansas City Zoo Run – a 4-mile run to benefit the Sumatran Tigers. After running 4 miles, we got free tickets to the zoo, so we walked about 4 more miles looking at all the animals. Even though I don’t have kids, I love going to the zoo because 1) I love animals, and 2) there are great photographic opportunities. My photo tip about zoos is to use the largest aperture (smallest number) you can, so the fences in the foreground are blurry and less of a distraction.
Thanks to the TV series Meerkat Manor, I bring you a photo of one of my favorite animals.
This meerkat, despite no chance of threat in the zoo, kept watch as two young meerkats wrestled below.
Can you tell what kind of flower this is? I noticed its leaf looked translucent when the sun was hitting it a few days ago, so I dropped what I was doing to snap a few photos.
This flower looks prettier than usual when the sun shines on it.
Nature is so amazing; look at how the sun shines right through this leaf.
Thursday evening I ventured out around sunset to capture some photos. I was feeling down on luck when a baby calf and pony weren’t in a field I’d seen them in earlier in the week, so I shot some disappointing photos of corn fields. And then … I came upon this. Perfection.
This past week, my husband and I took a road trip with another couple to North Carolina & South Carolina. We had an amazing trip! We just got back last night, so I obviously haven’t sorted through all my photos yet, but here are just a few of my favorites. As you can see, we had quite the mixture of activities throughout our trip.
