I got to welcome back this family a couple of weeks ago! I always love taking their photos every spring or summer, and I have so much fun trying out new places with them. Julie (mom) helped me locate some great murals in downtown KC, and they met me bright and early to get some awesome shots. There were so many beautiful, colorful images, it was hard to pick favorites for this post!

Family Portraits | Nature Sanctuary
I had the honor of taking this family’s wedding photos a number of years ago, and then portraits when their oldest was born. I was so excited to reunite again to shoot family photos and few 6-month photos of their youngest! We found some great spots in the early-morning secluded Ernie Miller Nature Sanctuary. Here are just a few of my favorites!

Welcome to the world, Will!
I had the honor of shooting photos for this family again after they welcomed baby Will into the world! What could be more fun to photograph than a sweet, snuggly little baby and a fun, active big sister? (Oh yeah, and two proud parents!)
Family Portraits | Four Girls and a Guy
Golden light + fall leaves + beautiful family = priceless! I love this sweet family and appreciate them allowing me to take their photos every year! Here are just a handful of my favorites.
Family Portraits | Downtown Parkville
It’s the most wonderful time of year … for portraits! I shot two portrait sessions last weekend. I’ve known this family for many years, so I was excited when they reached out about family photos. We met in Parkville – one of the prettiest towns in the KC Metro area. And it didn’t disappoint! The kiddos were so fun and energetic, and we had a great time walking downtown and looking for fun photo ops. I think the morning was a success!
Fall portrait season in full swing
I was excited to photograph one of my “regular” families last weekend at the beautiful Black Hoof Park. The leaves were starting to turn, making for perfect fall portraits. I always appreciate their continued support and love watching their family grow up! The sibling bond between these three is the best.
A Sea of Sunflowers
Last weekend, my husband humored me by getting up well before sunrise, waking our kids, and loading them in the car for a drive to the Kansas-famous sunflower field, Grinter Farms. I mean, what kind of Kansas photographer would I be if I didn’t insist we go there for sunrise?
Reality: While the morning light was great, the kids were not. Apparently the beauty of infinite sunflowers is lost on small children when they’re dragged out of bed and thrown into a field full of scratchy flowers and bugs. I still have to hashtag #worthit and #makingmemories, because the photos did indeed make it worth it.
First Birthday Portraits | Happy Baby
I absolutely love taking first birthday photos! They can be hard – toddlers don’t exactly sit still – but their first steps, smiles, and laughs are the best. As you can see, sweet Hollyn is one happy baby! See how she’s changed since her newborn photos a year ago.

Back in business | Family portraits
Aside from a few mini sessions during the stay-at-home order, I haven’t had the opportunity to do portraits in many months, so I was more than excited to take one of my favorite families’ annual portraits last weekend! If you haven’t had family photos taken lately…outdoor portraits are a great way to support local photographers from a safe distance.
Sidenote: now is also the time to book 2021 senior portraits!

Family Portraits | Long-time Friends
My first portrait session was about 12 years ago – an engagement session for this couple. Now they live across the country and have three kids who are growing up way too fast. But when they’re back home visiting family, I always love catching up and taking their photos. I was honored to shoot these in the church where they got married!
