My Relay For Life teammate Mandy hosted a Scentsy party yesterday to raise money for the American Cancer Society. We had a lot of fun smelling all the scents, but the most touching part was hearing how cancer has affected so many of us. We’ve raised about $300 so far (with a goal of $500) selling Scentsy products! If you buy them here, 20% goes toward Relay.
On Friday my office celebrated Choose You Day, an American Cancer Society movement that encourages people to put their own health first in the fight against cancer. We took a walk over our lunch hour and encouraged people to take the stairs instead of the elevator.
I moved my flowers & herbs into bigger pots yesterday evening and placed them outside away from the cat. Hopefully they survive the sun better than the cat’s teeth!
Yesterday we celebrated the kick-off to Plant It Pink in my office – an American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network initiative for people to join ACS CAN and order pink tulip bulbs. ACS CAN is the Society’s sister advocacy organization, and if you join you get the opportunity to email (or call, or visit) your government officials to advocate for more cancer research funding, smoke-free laws, etc. Not surprisingly, the media was about 30 minutes late to the event, so they got some lovely shots of our display table.
This photo blog is having a self-portrait challenge this week, and yesterday’s challenge was to utilize props. This is my typical, daily lunch. I’m excited to say that in a week I’ll be experiencing a totally different kind of lunch!
One of my fellow colleagues had her last day at work a few days ago – these flowers that remain on her desk just don’t quite fill the void.
We were excited to attend Food Truck Friday, but when we arrived at 6:30, the lines snaked all around the lot. Most vendors had already crossed the majority of the food off the list, so we decided to get in line for 3 Girls Cupcakes and get our dinner somewhere else. We finally made it to the front of the line – with only 3 cupcakes left in vanilla, vanilla – and about 100 people in line behind us. It was a fun experience, but I’m not sure it was worth 40 minutes in line and the $3 spent for a plain vanilla cupcake. We spent the rest of the weekend hanging out in Southeast Kansas with Jerod’s family, then we met my family for lunch on Sunday for Mother’s Day.
Last night my mom and I went to the Aluminum Show. It was so strange that it’s almost hard to explain. Actors danced and drummed using recycled industrial aluminum. It even had a storyline about a little aluminum creature that got separated from his parents and eventually found his way back. It was actually very artistic, the dancers were super talented, and there was lots of audience interaction. Unfortunately photography wasn’t allowed during the show, but they definitely provided unique photo opportunities afterward!

I think these delicate herbs growing in our window are about ready for a bigger pot. Next to the parsley and oregano is some pathetic looking cilantro (intentionally not pictured). Does anyone know why the cilantro isn’t growing well like the other two? Does it need less water? Or does my cat just enjoy eating it too much?
