Before the 6 inches of treacherous snowfall, before the morning commute with dozens of car wrecks, before the school cancellations and the worrying, was a peaceful snowfall. I’m glad I could capture the beauty of it rather than the danger.

Day 9: Evergreens
On Sunday we took our Christmas tree to a city park for recycling. It’s always fun to see the huge pile of trees.
Day 8: Rough Sport
Last night we went to our first Missouri Mavericks hockey game. Three good fights broke out; I sort of captured one of them in the photo below. It was kind of like watching soccer and boxing on ice. We had a great time!
Day 7: Dirty Jobs
Every couple of months we have the joy of cleaning out our turtle tanks. I say “tanks,” because they started biting each other a few years ago so I had to separate them. Now I have two of everything, so it’s double the work to clean the tanks. What a fun way to spend Friday night, right? P.S. If you’ve never seen my turtles before, check out the April 2010 archive.

Photo 2: Next I get to clean out their water filters.
Photo 3: Last night we had a little accident. We had the water heaters laying on the floor with the power strip off, but someone (ahem, a turtle or cat) walked over the switch and turned it on. A few minutes later I smelled something burning and ran into the room to find the carpet burned all the way to the mat. Anyone know how to repair this? If not…there goes our deposit.

Day 6: Helpless
Today marks the one-month anniversary of someone stealing my wedding ring. Here is my first attempt at a self-portrait, attempting to portray the emotion I felt when I realized my most valued possession was gone.
Day 5: Urban Commuter
It’s funny the things you start noticing when you carry your camera everywhere. I’ve walked past this Vespa near work every day for months, yet I never really thought twice about it. But now that I think about it, wouldn’t it be fun to have one to buzz around town?
Day 4: Holiday Leftovers
I subscribe to a photography blog that has weekly photography “assignments.” I’ve never done them before, but I may start now that I’m taking photos every day. This week’s assignment is holiday food. So here is our holiday food – a fridge full of leftovers!
Day 3: The Daily Grind
Many of my coworkers took a couple of weeks of vacation around the holidays, so I was excited to see some smiling faces when I got to work this morning. At 7:30 a.m., this is what I found instead. (Fortunately they did show up; my day just starts a little earlier than theirs.)
Day 2: Old Friends
Jerod and I just returned from the airport to send off his friend Brad, who is in the Navy and currently stationed in Japan. Brad is one of those guys who always has exciting stories to tell, and they’re actually real. After all, he flies F18s off an aircraft carrier for a living. We didn’t have much time with him, so we just chatted for a few minutes and snapped a quick picture in an airport bar before he headed out.
Day 1: New Beginnings
This year I plan to do the 365 day photography project by taking at least one good photo each day (and attempting to post them on my blog daily, or at least almost daily). I celebrated New Year’s Eve with some of my closest friends, and I think this photo represents new beginnings for the new year just perfectly. Here is Mommy, Daddy, and baby “Blueberry,” due in April. I can’t wait to take more photos of the family!
