Tonight I attended a National Geographic talk about birds of paradise. The talk (by a Nat Geo photographer and ornithologist) was so informative, and the photos were incredible! It made me realize how little time I’ve taken to photograph birds. Maybe I just haven’t had the patience for it, but I want to be more intentional about it in the future. Here’s one of my few shots…nothing in comparison to what I saw tonight.
For those of you who have been asking, here are a few photos of our new home. We moved March 9, and of course it took us awhile to unpack and settle in. Here are a few long overdue photos.
Welcome to our home! Our living room.Dining room with new table – we plan to remodel this room in the near future.Kitchen – my favorite room in the house. (My cat’s favorite as well.)Lower level – our favorite hang out spot.
Now that we’ve had a few warm days and some nice rain, we’ve been doing a lot of yard work at our new house. We really have no idea what we’re doing, but we’ve attempted to lay some grass seed and keep moist. It should germinate in the next few days. We’ve also been clearing out the flower beds, raking, mowing, weed eating, and many other things that seem to keep us busy. (Coming from an apartment, we’re keeping Lowe’s in business!) While outside I ran into these random flowers. They are kind of pretty, but they seem to have spread throughout our yard, so I’m not sure if they’re weeds.
Coming up soon…a home tour! (Many bloggers may not care to see the inside of our home, but some of our friends who know personally us have been asking to see pics.)
A little flowering plant in our front yard. According to Google it’s a grape hyacinth. There’s, well, a lot of them.
It’s been just over four months since I returned from a mission trip to Haiti. It’s hard to believe how quickly time flies and how much I miss it. I just finished my photo book from the trip, so the experience has been on my mind a lot lately. You can learn more about the trip here. I hadn’t posted this photo yet so I thought I’d share it with you today.

Yesterday I participated in the Brew to Brew relay race with a group of friends. Eight of us ran 44 miles from Kansas City to Lawrence. Check out my friend Julie’s blog post to learn more about it!
Mandy ran her leg of the Brew to Brew race on a gravel road. She carried our “Sparkle Ponies” baton with pride! Our relay runners, minus one member who had to leave early
This big girl turns two this week. We enjoyed a sweet birthday party filled with frozen yogurt, cupcakes, and candy this weekend. (Did you catch the pun?) She’s growing up so quickly! To see how much she’s grown, check out these other photos of her.
I recently passed a downtown community garden on a walk. With our long winter and spring just beginning, nothing had been planted yet. I did find this tiny flower, which reminded me of baby’s breath. So delicate, yet so sturdy after surviving the harsh winter.
Can you name this plant? Is it baby’s breath or something else?
