Tonight is Relay For Life. Tonight, I will celebrate all the progress we’ve made in the fight against cancer. Tonight, I will remember loved ones lost. Tonight, I will fight back against the disease – by raising money & raising awareness. Twenty of my closest friends and family and I will gather together, along with about 400 other participates, to walk the track all night. To do what we can to help create a world with less cancer. One of the best parts about Tanganyika Wildlife Park was how close we could get to the animals, like this giraffe. I love that I was close enough to see the veins in her ears!

(Although I’m posting several days worth of photos from Tanganyika, I am in no way getting paid – the opinions are strictly my own.)

Correction: Yesterday’s photo was a cheetah, not a leopard. I’m not sure what I was thinking when I typed that!

This weekend we took a mini-vacation to Wichita, KS to catch up with some friends. While there, I had the best interactive zoo experience at Tanganyika Wildlife Park. This is a really unique park that promotes education and conservation, and encourages interaction. Yes, interaction! That’s what makes this zoo unique. I’ll be sharing several photos over the next several days.

I served as the photographer for an important event at the American Cancer Society yesterday – they received a check for $100,000 from Black & Veatch for our Kansas City Hope Lodge, a facility where cancer patients can stay free of charge during treatment. I got to hang out with the Secret Service and this famous man below. Do you recognize him? (Hint: If you live in Missouri or you’re big into U.S. Politics, you should probably know him.) Shamefully, I probably wouldn’t have recognized him if he strolled by me on the street until yesterday.

If you took a guess at yesterday’s photo, the correct answer is the Chapel at Powell Gardens just outside of Kansas City. Powell Gardens is home to this chapel, several types of flower gardens, fountains and water gardens, vegetable gardens, trails, and so much more. It’s such a beautiful place to visit that I’ve got about a week’s worth of photos to show you!

I’m a day behind on posting a photo, but yesterday was so busy. We started the day at 5 a.m. when we woke up to participate in the Hospital Hill run with a few friends. My husband and I ran the 10k in about 57 minutes, which I thought was pretty good considering all of the hills. I placed 169/1189 women. Check out my friend Julie’s blog to see photos and read more about it. After that our group had brunch at a cute downtown restaurant, then we went with Julie to the Liberty Arts Festival. The weather was gorgeous, and we enjoyed that the festival wasn’t overwhelmingly large. Although we didn’t purchase anything, it was fun to look at all the local artists’ talent. And all of that happened before 1 p.m. Below is my favorite piece of “art” from the art fest!
