I posted photos of my daughter’s fifth birthday last week, but just in case any of you have children who love Sound of Music, I wanted to share a post of some of the fun, simple ways I incorporated the theme. While this is hardly a Pinterest-worthy party, I couldn’t exactly find a lot of ideas out there, either. Forewarning: Despite my better judgement, I did pull movie images from the internet.
And just like that…my firstborn is five years old. It’s been a whirlwind of birthday celebrations this weekend, from her birthday celebration at school and opening gifts from us at home on Friday, to a family celebration on Saturday, to a small froyo party with her closest school friends Sunday afternoon. To say she feels spoiled would be an understatement. She even said a thank-you prayer last night for gifts, friends and family, and cake!
So, what’s she been up to this year? Lil’ Miss K has been busy at preschool and is heading to kindergarten round-up this week. She’s starting to read her Bob books, she loves math and geography, writing and coloring. Her preschool teacher says she’s well-rounded. While she seems to be more cautious than her little sister, she has come out of her shell this year. She’s turned into a leader at her school, she tries new things without giving up, and it turns out that she loves snow skiing (and is pretty darn good at it)! I can’t wait to see what the next year has in store for her.

Miss M turned 19 months old earlier this week. We’re a few days late due to some bad weather…like ice covering our yard making it impossible to get out. It’s hard to believe she’s closer to two than one! Compare to last month’s picture.
Last weekend, we were blessed with 6-inches of snow – the most snow we’ve had in years (and the most my girls have ever seen). It was the heavy kind that sticks to the trees, blanketing everything in a gorgeous white. Perfect for making snowmen. I truly feel for those who lost power or had to drive on slick roads, but for us, we truly enjoyed the beauty and fun of it. (Now, almost a week later, I’m ready for the sun to peek out!) Here are a few favorites from the weekend.
This little girl turned eighteen months yesterday, now making her closer to two than one. Where did my little baby go? She loves running, talking, and jumping, and mimicking her sister. She’s now going through the screaming phase and getting more strong-willed by the day. We love her to pieces! See how she’s grown.
It’s been so long since I’ve posted any personal photos on the blog; I’ve been slacking on pulling out the camera to take candids of my family. I caught a few good ones during the holidays, although not as many as I would have liked. Below are a few of my favorites!
Another month came and went, and this girl is seventeen months old now. She’s learning new words every day. Our current favorite is “no ‘iting,” which we assume means either “no biting,” or “no Ezzy” (our cat). She uses it whenever someone (or some animal) is doing something she disapproves of. I love watching her run, march, and dance, too!
I know my girls will be teenagers before we know it. We’ll be arguing and bickering and trying to get them to put down their devices and speak to us. But right now, dinnertime–the spills, food throwing, and coaxing to eat aside–is pure joy. It’s the time we have together where we pray as a family, our girls giggle and laugh, and my cheeks hurt from smiling so hard. I never want to forget that.

“Cheese!” That’s the face she’s making here. We shot these photos quickly after getting home from a short trip Sunday evening, knowing that after the time change, we wouldn’t have any daylight hours after getting home from work to take her monthly photos. I was lucky to get a couple of decent ones.
Miss M is sixteen months old now, and in full toddler mode with a lot of sass and a growing vocabulary. She likes to point at our cats and say, “NO!” Hmm, I wonder where she came up with that?

They’re baacckkk!! The days are long, but the years are short. This family, especially baby Abby, has grown so much in the last year! Check out all the adorableness (is that even a word?) below, then take a peek down memory lane at last year’s session.
Miss M turned fifteen months old a few days ago – man, time sure does fly! I’m posting her fourteen month picture too, since I missed that one.
She’s a little person with a ton of personality, toddling around and making us laugh constantly. She gets into everything, screams when she doesn’t get what she wants, dances her booty off, scribbles on the walls, and has no fear of climbing onto big sister’s scooter and taking off down the driveway.
She’s catching up on the growth chart, weighing in at 20.5 pounds & 30 inches, putting her in the 40-50th percentile.
She’s a talker too, with probably 20-30 words in her vocabulary, although a lot of them sound similar and Mommy and Daddy are probably the only ones who can decipher most of them.
