A friend’s farmland in Southeast Kansas.

We found these adorable kittens at a farm we visited this weekend. Doesn’t the one in the foreground have stunning eyes? More photos to come of the beautiful farmland!

You will probably see quite a few fall photos on this blog over the next couple of months. It’s my favorite time of year, and I have a house now, which means room to decorate! I’m even making a few of my own pieces this year. (Just call me Martha.) This was one of the centerpieces at my bridal shower 4 years ago. I love that I’ve been able to re-use it! (We definitely picked a good season to get married.)

The moonrise Saturday evening was breathtaking, so my husband and I decided to pull over near downtown Kansas City so I could attempt to get a good photo. Unfortunately 1) the deep red colors of the moon had faded, and 2) I didn’t have my tripod with me. I had to up the ISO and widen the aperture – not ideal for night time photography – but I’m still pretty happy with this shot considering the circumstances. Check out yesterday’s moon photo if you missed it.

This is my first successful photo of the moon! Usually it’s overexposed, out of focus, or too small to show detail. I only wish I had a telephoto lens or a way to attach my camera to a telescope to capture even more detail.

Happy first day of fall! Does this mean I can decorate the house for Halloween now?

Fall is just a few days away. Here are a few things I’m looking forward to during this favorite season of mine …

Last weekend we took on another fairly large home project – staining our deck. The previous homeowners had neglected it – the stain had wore off on the horizontal surfaces, and the wood was peeling horribly. After several hours of cleaning, power washing, and sanding, we were finally ready. It was pushing 100 degrees last weekend, so we got up early and spent both Saturday and Sunday morning staining. The finished product – Redwood Natural semi-transparent – turned out quite nice, if you ask me.

One of my hanging baskets is silhouetted against a beautiful September sunset.
