Our (real) Christmas tree this year! I know white lights are classy, but we still love the colored ones.

Creative blog title, right?
Since this is our first winter in a house, our outdoor lights are pretty skimpy. We’re hoping to stock up on lights when they go on sale after Christmas. I bought these cute little guys at Target a couple of years ago, so they’ll just have to be a bit lonely in our front lawn this season. Looking at Christmas lights is my husband’s favorite holiday tradition. What is yours?

You may recall that I did portraits for this couple a couple of months ago. At the end of the photo session, they broke out their “ugly Christmas sweaters” and an antique sled for some fun Christmas card photos. Unfortunately (or fortunately, since it was October) there was no snow on the ground. After a bit of work in Photoshop, this is the card I developed for them. I love their fun-loving spirits and creativity!

Here’s the final photo from Thanksgiving in Denver. This is one of the wind farms we passed on the long drive through Western Kansas.

A Bright Union Station

During our Thanksgiving trip to Denver, we attended the downtown lighting ceremony. Here’s a photo of the Union Station all lit up!

A beautiful blue bird seen at Garden of the Gods. Can you name the species?

To answer Saturday’s question about what landmark we visited in Colorado … it was Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. Although the nice weather brought out crowds of people, I enjoyed the short hikes and the lack of that overwhelming feeling that comes with visiting a large National Park and barely having time to scratch the surface of it.

A beautiful view on a beautiful day outside the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.

During our Thanksgiving trip to Denver last week, we went to the downtown lighting ceremony and walked around the nearby shops while admiring the Christmas lights. The Denver event is nothing like the Country Club Plaza lighting in Kansas City in terms of scale, beauty, and crowds, but I actually enjoyed the low-key evening. It was picture-perfect, don’t you think?
