I’m back!

Hey, there! It’s been a while. My family has been going through a lot of life changes – so many that I haven’t had a second to work on photos. Tonight, I decided to take a little break to edit photos from over a month ago, before Lil’ Miss K even turned two. Next, I’ll actually edit her birthday photos and post those. I’ve missed this little blog…I’ve definitely missed my photography.

These were taken in the West Bottoms in an attempt to get some two-year-old shots. Unfortunately Lil’ Miss K was in a clingy mood and a bit afraid of the bridge, so things didn’t go as planned. But we still managed to get a few keepers!

Happiness on a wall

I posted an Instagram photo last night of my husband helping me hang frames. Around Christmas we did some rearranging, which left a big open wall with a lonely off-center clock. I had a dream of making a photo wall, but with people coming over for Lil’ Miss K’s 2nd birthday party this coming weekend, I suddenly got motivated to make it happen. After lots of “pinspiration,” I decided to use a few pieces I already had and purchase a few new pieces as well. I had bought the small 4×6 frames on clearance probably a year ago, and I had the metal Kansas City skyline hanging in our kitchen. I liked the clock on that wall, so I decided to integrate it with the art.

This past weekend we visited Kansas City’s First Fridays antiques sales in the West Bottoms, and I found two pieces perfect for my photo wall – the “Home is where the heart is” wood panel, and the big open frame.

I completed the photo wall with a trip to Michael’s on Sunday, where I struck gold with tons of options for letters (40% off!), ampersands, and more clearance frames. The “R” marquee lights up, but I forgot to turn it on for the photo.

Finally, I sorted through some of our favorite vacation photos and settled on prints of Glacier National Park, Grand Canyon, and Rocky Mountain National Park. To arrange the art on the wall, I first laid it out on the floor, then cut newspaper to fit the size of the frames and it them to the wall to make sure everything was arranged how I wanted. That step was critical in my mind. From that point, we just lined up the holes and nailed right through the newspaper – super easy! I’m so happy with the final product – I smile every time I see it.

Home, Sick

Lil’ Miss K had to stay home sick a few days ago with a sinus infection. It was one of those days where she stayed in her pajamas most of the day, and I gave her some screen time. The only shows she has ever sat still for are Max the Glow Train and Little Baby Bum videos on YouTube. We felt her forehead so often, she learned to feel Daddy’s too. She had enough energy to play peek-a-boo in the kitchen cabinets, though!

Photo of the Day: Twenty-three Months Old

In less than three weeks, Lil’ Miss K will be turning two. I frequently look back on where we were a year ago, and it’s hard to believe how much has changed. Last year she wasn’t walking yet, and now she’s jumping on a trampoline and running like a pro. A year ago she only said a few words; now she has a vocabulary of a few hundred words, speaks in sentences, and knows many songs by heart. What will the next year bring?

Here’s how she has changed since last month.

New Toddler Toys, Part I

Hello and welcome to 2016! It’s been a while since I’ve posted, especially photos of my own family. We had a great Christmas, and Lil’ Miss K got some really fun gifts. Since we’re in the thick of winter, we’ve spent a lot of time inside playing with her new toys. Her trampoline is definitely a favorite – she loves jumping so much that I’ve enrolled her in a tumbling class! She asks to finger paint most every day, so I’ve converted a pair of Halloween pj’s into paint clothes. I have a few more photos to share with you tomorrow.

An “outdoorsy” indoor photo shoot

Due to a 36-hour rain shower this weekend, we had to move this family’s photo shoot indoors. Luckily they had a great suggestion of a unique indoor location – Bass Pro Shop! I was a little unsure how it would go with the crowds and the lighting, but I think we were all really happy with how the shoot went. I had such a great time getting to know this energetic and creative family!

Portraits at the Kauffman

Another bucket list photo shoot location was checked off this weekend – the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City. It’s an iconic landmark in the city – truly an architectural piece of art. I’m so happy this family suggested doing photos there. Little Theodore is only about 11 months old, but he lasted an entire hour as we got amazing shot after shot. (Doesn’t he have incredible hair?) I’m so happy with how these turned out and can’t wait to edit the rest!
