I believe one of the things that makes my portrait sessions different, is that I love shooting at different places and finding unique vantage points. That’s exactly what we did last weekend at Liberty Memorial. There were several photographers set up with the iconic skyline in the background, and while we shot there too, I love the photos we got in other spots – the fountain, mosaic walls, and the actual memorial in the background. These silly kids made the session….and editing…so much fun. Little Kendrix made all the silly faces!

Photo of the Day: Celebration at the Station
I’ve always struggled with getting good fireworks photos, but I think this year’s Celebration at the Station was a success. I used a tripod and had my camera setting on a high ISO, wide aperture, and fairly slow shutter speed (1/6 sec.). This is one of my favorites from the evening. What do you think? Is there anything I could have done to improve it?

Photographic Prints for Relay For Life
I’ve been team captain for our Relay For Life team for several years, so I’m constantly trying to come up with creative fundraisers. Last year I decided to try my hand at selling photographic prints, and I raised about $250 with that fundraiser. Not too bad! Naturally I want to beat that number this year. If you like my photography, please consider purchasing a photographic print. You can pick one of the Kansas City photos below, or you can pick any photo from my blog. Visit etsy.com to place an order. And if you don’t want a print but you still hate cancer, the American Cancer Society and I will happily accept donations to Relay For Life. Thank you for your continued support!

Project 52 Week 18: A Picture Perfect Evening
I spent some time this past week taking photos around the city. I’m adding to my portfolio so I can sell prints on etsy.com. I’m not in the business to make a profit. I am donating 100% of proceeds from these prints to the 2012 American Cancer Society Relay For Life. My goal this year is to raise $500. So if you’d like a photographic print of Kansas City, or if you’d like to help raise money for this awesome fundraiser, please check out my Etsy page. I plan to add more photos over the next several weeks.
This is one of my favorites from the week:

Days 316-317: Night of Hope, Day of Renewal
This weekend finally arrived … and passed too quickly. I was so looking forward to the Night of Hope – a Pancreatic Cancer Action Network gala – 1) because it was our first time attending a gala, and 2) the cause is close to my heart. My aunt passed away from pancreatic cancer last July, just 8 months after being diagnosed. Since then I’ve met so many people who have been affected by this horrible disease. It was a roller coaster of emotions; it was fun to dress up and get a fancy hotel room, but it was also incredibly touching to witness the Vigil for Hope, where everyone lit purple lights in memory of their loved ones.
