We almost got arrested for this shot. Ok, maybe I’m exaggerating a little, but we did get yelled at very sternly by a cop with a megaphone. The scolding was well worth the photo, because this is my husband right after graduating with his Master of Education degree from Rockhurst University on Saturday. I couldn’t be more proud! We had a fantastic day with family and lots of friends at a surprise graduation party afterward. A good friend of ours made the amazing cupcakes below – aren’t they perfect?

Project 52 Week 18: A Picture Perfect Evening
I spent some time this past week taking photos around the city. I’m adding to my portfolio so I can sell prints on etsy.com. I’m not in the business to make a profit. I am donating 100% of proceeds from these prints to the 2012 American Cancer Society Relay For Life. My goal this year is to raise $500. Project 52 Week 16: Bringing the Ocean to Missouri
I was beyond excited when the SEALife Aquarium opened in Kansas City just a few weeks ago. Considering I live in almost the most landlocked city in the United States, this was a big deal. So visiting it this weekend was a great way to celebrate my birthday with family. (A friend of mine just took her one-year-old daughter to the aquarium for her birthday, too. I wonder what having the same birthday party as a one-year-old says about me?) I had a great time taking photos, but as usual, I couldn’t narrow it down to just one. Do you have a favorite?
Project 52 Week 13: City Grunge
Since the weather has been so nice {and unseasonably warm}, I’ve done a lot of walking and exploring downtown lately. This is one of my favorite shots from last week.
Project 52 Week 11: Luck O’ The Irish
A big tradition in Kansas City is our St. Paddy’s Day Parade, and since it fell on a Saturday this year, we were actually able to go. One of the best places to people watch, and practice street photography, is at a parade. You can always get great pictures of the floats, cars, bands, horses, and people marching in the parade – but even better, in my opinion, is the crowd shots.
Project 52 Week 2: Modern Marvel
One of my New Year’s resolutions this year is to have a weekly date night with my husband. So after excellent food and drinks at Snow & Company, I shot some night photos of the new Kansas City modern marvel: the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. It just happened to be the coldest day of the year; with the wind whipping and snow just minutes from falling.
Day 361: Windows and Mirrors
I am one of maybe 20% of my coworkers actually in the office this week, because most people save up their time off to use around the holidays when their kids are out of school. So I was pleasantly surprised when my parents called me at work yesterday morning, offering to take me to a small art exhibit at the KC Public Library over lunch. We spent some time looking at colorful, powerful murals depicting the War in Afghanistan at the exhibit titled, “Windows and Mirrors.” Learn more about the artwork here.
Day 348: A Different Kind of Light
I’ve been taking a lot of pictures of Christmas lights lately, so I decided to shoot a different kind of light. Since yesterday brought unseasonably warm temperatures, it was the perfect opportunity to set up the tripod and photograph lights at night. These neon signs light up the front of the Quaff Bar & Grill in downtown Kansas City.
Days 343 & 345: Light Show
One of the best things about the holiday season is the Christmas lights. Friday evening we drove around Kansas City to look at outdoor Christmas lights. My favorite light display is at Crown Center, with the giant Christmas tree and lot of smaller trees covered in white lights and surrounded by water fountains.
Finally on Sunday Jerod and I had time to go get a Christmas tree and decorate it. The best part was turning off the overhead lights, eating cookies, and drinking eggnog as we admired our tree.
