This weekend I went with a few friends on one of the most breathtaking hikes I’ve experienced locally – at Weston Bend State Park in Weston, Mo. My friends Julie, Mandy, and myself all brought our cameras (all three of us are bloggers), and we turned it into a photo walk. Five miles of crisp air, fall leaves, and great conversation was definitely the highlight of my weekend. I’ll be sharing a few of my photos over the next few days. I posted a photo of the Kansas City Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Monday. Now that I’ve edited the other 300, I wanted to share a few more to give you a sense of this fabulous event. Kansas City raised over $400,000 for the American Cancer Society this year!

My husband’s aunts have both unfortunately had to deal with breast cancer.

About 15,000 people participated in this year’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.

Saturday was the 5th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event in Kansas City. This local American Cancer Society walk has grown from about 2,000 walkers 5 years ago to over 15,000 walkers and $400,000 raised this year! I was excited to be one of the official photographers again this year; more photos to come after I finish editing them.

After the Kansas City Zoo Run Saturday morning, several of us decided to walk around the zoo for a while. I highly recommend visiting in the fall – the animals are so much more active, and it’s less exhausting on you when it isn’t so hot, too! This adorable golden lion tamarin (my husband’s favorite zoo animal) must be thinking something great – can you come up with a good caption?

The moonrise Saturday evening was breathtaking, so my husband and I decided to pull over near downtown Kansas City so I could attempt to get a good photo. Unfortunately 1) the deep red colors of the moon had faded, and 2) I didn’t have my tripod with me. I had to up the ISO and widen the aperture – not ideal for night time photography – but I’m still pretty happy with this shot considering the circumstances. After spending way too much money in vet bills, I think we’ve officially adopted the black cat we rescued a couple of months ago. It just occurred to me that I’d only taken one picture of him. After trying for quite a while yesterday, I realize why. He doesn’t sit still for one. single. second. He’s the most affectionate cat you’ll ever meet, but he still doesn’t get along great with our other cat. He chases her in what seems to be an assertion of dominance. Any tips out there?
