Cycle in the City

Yesterday afternoon we attended Kansas City’s Cycle in the City, where they close down the city’s prettiest street for an afternoon of biking/walking/skating. As a cyclist who always feels in the minority, it was great to see so many families out riding their bikes. I was amazed at how many little 3-4 year olds were riding without training wheels! We also discovered balance bikes, which you can get for toddlers as early as 18 months – it may be our next big splurge for Lil’ Miss K! We had a lot of fun checking out the event – next year we’ll be back with our bikes.

Photo of the Day: First Bike Ride

Spring has sprung (at least for now) in Kansas City! After getting a bike trailer for Christmas and a bike helmet for Lil’ Miss K’s first birthday, we were anxious to take her out on her first bike ride. Snacks and water in hand, she seemed quite excited to try something new. She giggled for several minutes as we took off down the path. Forty minutes later, she had about had enough, but it was a successful first ride! She’ll be doing Bike Across Kansas in no time.

Project 52 Week 25: Biker Blur

Wow, last week was such a busy week! I had a tough time deciding between photos of a triathlon, Grandma’s birthday, drag queen bingo (I can admit to it since it was a fundraiser), or two pool parties with friends. Oh … or the gorgeous rose vase we received as a wedding gift, shattered in a thousand pieces after a cleaning incident. I actually cried.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a creative photo, so I thought I’d take a chance with this one. What do you think? Is it creative, or just a big blur?

Panning shot: this was one of the top cyclists during the Kansas City Corporate Challenge triathlon last weekend.

Day 82: Ready to Ride (my bicycle)

Yesterday I picked up our bikes from their annual tune-ups. I know most hardcore cyclists have already logged many miles on the road this year, but I have yet to ride. I’m getting antsy for a warm(ish) day with wind gusts below 30 mph. I know, I know … it’s a lot to ask for in the Midwest.
