Day 163: Helping Hands

I noticed these perfect hand prints on our bed as Jerod helped me change the sheets yesterday. What’s your feedback … is it a creative photo, or is it just hard to tell what’s going on?

Day 162: The Hills Are Alive

Last night we went to Theatre in the Park to watch the Sound of Music. Since it was so nice outside we decided to get there early to get a good seat. Believe it or not, we got there at 6 p.m. for an 8:30 show and the crowds were already forming.

Day 161: Taking a Gander

Yesterday evening my sister and nephew stayed with us before heading to the airport in the morning. My nephew loves to feed the geese and the ducks at our pond. The goslings are now several weeks old and actually bigger (and meaner) than the full-grown ducks!

Spencer and Jerod look on as they feed geese.

Day 160: Trash and Treasures

This week is the Platte Woods United Methodist Church annual Trash & Treasure Sale. Since we only joined the church a few months ago, last night was my first time experiencing the sale. All I can say is…WOW! I’ve never seen so many “treasures” in my life! The only sale I know of that competes with this one is my former high school Band Garage Sale, which raises around $10,000 annually. All the proceeds from this sale go toward the church’s mission trips.

Day 158: The Intimidator

I need another pet. Maybe a puppy. Or better yet, I need to borrow someone’s child once in a while. Then maybe I would have something cute to take photos of besides my cat. Here she is again, this time getting ready to attack [a pipe cleaner] from behind her favorite hideout.

Esme is so intimidating, isn't she?

Day 157: Kindle? No thanks.

There’s something very inviting about going to the library. I’m not sure if it’s the smell of the books, the vibrant children’s section, or just the way everyone seems to slow down their pace when they enter. Or maybe I love it because I can get almost any book ever written … for free. Am I ready for a Kindle or Nook? Obviously not.

This stack of books can be found at the Kansas City Central public library.

Days 154-156: Wet ‘n Wild Weekend

Ok, ok. It may have been more wet than wild. And it may not be summer yet, but it definitely feels like it with the 90 degree temps.

Friday night we went to a Royals game and watched my Alma mater band play the Star Spangled Banner. We enjoyed the $1 peanuts and hotdogs, free fireworks display, and this lighted fountain. Actually, I think we enjoyed all of that more than watching the Royals lose.
On Saturday we walked around at the Zona Rosa shopping center for a while, but like the kid slashing in the fountain, we found it too hot to stay outside very long.
Sunday afternoon we beat the heat by going to the pool. Everyone else had the same idea too, but they were obviously having a good time.

Days 136-149: Drumroll Please … (Italia!)

I’m sure you’ve all been sitting anxiously by your computers waiting for these photos, so without further ado, here are my daily photos from Italy. Please be patient while I work on the other 1100 or so. I’ll post the best ones on Facebook. If you aren’t on Facebook and you’d like to see them, shoot me an email and I can send you a link.

Heading down the International terminal in Chicago for our 9-hour flight to Rome.
Looking up at the Trinità dei Monti church and obelisk at the top of the Spanish Steps in Rome.
Massive crowds watch as the Pope rides by in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City.
The Florence Duomo (Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore) and it's bell tower at dusk.
Looking past the Fountain of Neptune in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence.
Lighting candles inside Milan's Duomo.
A hazy, yet peaceful view atop Mt. Tamaro in the Swiss Alps.
A night view of St. Peter's Square in Venice.
Taking a gondola ride in Venice, along with every other tourist.
We visited the quaint town of Ravenna, mostly populated with bicyclists.
Beautiful Italian countryside between Perugia and Pompeii.
One of our breathtaking views from the Isle of Capri near Sorrento.
It felt like heaven's gates were opening as we entered St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican - light was shining through the Cupola as the choir sang for Mass.
Even though we were supposed to be home by 7:30, the sun set on us while we were waiting for a flight home from Chicago.

Day 154: Souvenirs, Parte Tre

I saved the best souvenir for last. It’s a handmade wooden inlayed music box/jewelry box from Sorrento. It plays the Italian song, Funiculi, Funicula. It’s a catchy little tune, but we’re finding every time we open the box it gets stuck in our heads…for days!
