Project 52 Week 20: Remembering Italy

In an effort to populate my etsy site with Kansas City photographic prints, I took some photos of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception this week. It’s not quite like the cathedrals I saw a year ago in Italy, but it’s still a beautiful structure.

Project 52 Week 19: From Graduation … to Jail?

We almost got arrested for this shot. Ok, maybe I’m exaggerating a little, but we did get yelled at very sternly by a cop with a megaphone. The scolding was well worth the photo, because this is my husband right after graduating with his Master of Education degree from Rockhurst University on Saturday. I couldn’t be more proud! We had a fantastic day with family and lots of friends at a surprise graduation party afterward. A good friend of ours made the amazing cupcakes below – aren’t they perfect?

Project 52 Week 18: A Picture Perfect Evening

I spent some time this past week taking photos around the city. I’m adding to my portfolio so I can sell prints on etsy.com. I’m not in the business to make a profit. I am donating 100% of proceeds from these prints to the 2012 American Cancer Society Relay For Life. My goal this year is to raise $500. So if you’d like a photographic print of Kansas City, or if you’d like to help raise money for this awesome fundraiser, please check out my Etsy page. I plan to add more photos over the next several weeks.

This is one of my favorites from the week:

Project 52 Week 17: Something Blue

This weekend we had the pleasure of attending the wedding of my elementary school best friend. She was a beautiful bride, and the intimate ceremony and low-key reception fit her personality perfectly. Even better – I adore her new husband – how he looks at her, treats her, and makes her laugh. It was great catching up with old friends, too.

Project 52 Week 16: Bringing the Ocean to Missouri

I was beyond excited when the SEALife Aquarium opened in Kansas City just a few weeks ago. Considering I live in almost the most landlocked city in the United States, this was a big deal. So visiting it this weekend was a great way to celebrate my birthday with family. (A friend of mine just took her one-year-old daughter to the aquarium for her birthday, too. I wonder what having the same birthday party as a one-year-old says about me?) I had a great time taking photos, but as usual, I couldn’t narrow it down to just one. Do you have a favorite?

My favorite fish in the entire aquarium was this little Picasso Triggerfish. (Or in Hawaiian, it's called the humuhumunukunukuapuaa fish.)

Take Your DOG To Work Day?

You read it right – my office hosted Take Your Dog To Work Day on Friday. We had about fifteen dogs in the office, and for a couple of hours they were all in one room for some festivities. It sounds like complete chaos, but the dogs were on their best behavior at all times. Why did we host Take Your Dog To Work Day? I’m so glad you asked. Our staff wanted to promote a fairly new American Cancer Society event called Bark For Life, which is basically a Relay For Life for dogs. There will be two Bark For Life events in Kansas City this April/May. If you have a dog, you should look to see if there’s a Bark For Life in your area!

Project 52 Weeks 14-15: Easter Extravaganza

I told myself I would only post ONE photo per week for my Project 52 this year. But I just can’t help it. We were so busy spending time with my family and my in-laws, that I want to share a piece of that with you. So here’s a glimpse of our very busy Easter weekend. Which photo is your favorite?

As I was packing for the weekend, my cat Esme climbed into my drawer and made herself comfortable on top of my sports bras.
Mom broke out the china dishes for Easter this year ... and got creative with the food.
We looked at some old slides from a trip my mom took when she was about 12 years old. We're taking the same trip this summer. Can you tell where this is?
More nostalgia ... my nephew plays with some antique box cars.

Project 52 Week 12: March Showers

As I edited this week’s photos, I noticed that I spent most of my time shooting flowers and trees. It rained for about 5 days straight this past week, but whenever it wasn’t pouring, it was hard not to notice all the beautiful blooming flowers and budding trees. Spring has definitely arrived! I chose this as my photo of the week because it isn’t the typical tulip or daffodil shot.

Rain drops glisten on leaves right after a storm. (Anyone know what type of plant this is?)
