New Toddler Toys, Part I

Hello and welcome to 2016! It’s been a while since I’ve posted, especially photos of my own family. We had a great Christmas, and Lil’ Miss K got some really fun gifts. Since we’re in the thick of winter, we’ve spent a lot of time inside playing with her new toys. Her trampoline is definitely a favorite – she loves jumping so much that I’ve enrolled her in a tumbling class! She asks to finger paint most every day, so I’ve converted a pair of Halloween pj’s into paint clothes. I have a few more photos to share with you tomorrow.

Photo of the Day: Twenty-two months old

Sticking with tradition, Lil’ Miss K turned twenty-two months old a week ago, but I just now got around to taking her monthly photo. (Had to get a true comparison, right?) Has she changed since last month? It’s hard for me to tell. I think maybe her hair has grown a little. I can hardly believe she’ll be two in February. At that point I’ll switch to quarterly photos.

An “outdoorsy” indoor photo shoot

Due to a 36-hour rain shower this weekend, we had to move this family’s photo shoot indoors. Luckily they had a great suggestion of a unique indoor location – Bass Pro Shop! I was a little unsure how it would go with the crowds and the lighting, but I think we were all really happy with how the shoot went. I had such a great time getting to know this energetic and creative family!

Portraits at the Kauffman

Another bucket list photo shoot location was checked off this weekend – the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City. It’s an iconic landmark in the city – truly an architectural piece of art. I’m so happy this family suggested doing photos there. Little Theodore is only about 11 months old, but he lasted an entire hour as we got amazing shot after shot. (Doesn’t he have incredible hair?) I’m so happy with how these turned out and can’t wait to edit the rest!

We have been blessed with unseasonably warm weather in Missouri these last few days, and I’m soaking it up – especially when it comes to portrait sessions! This weekend’s December portrait session turned out great with warm weather and a fun, photogenic family. I loved their family dynamic – always joking, going with the flow, and just having a good time, even if the thought of portraits sounded a little terrifying. Here’s a sneak peek!

Holiday Portrait Session | West Bottoms KC

I’ve found my new favorite portrait location in Kansas City. I knew the West Bottoms would be a gem, but I was just waiting for the right family to go for it. I hadn’t seen these high school friends in over a decade, so it was fun to catch up and meet their kiddos. They did a super job just being themselves, which made my job pretty darn easy. Sweet little Heidi is already two! Since she’s only about 3 months older than my daughter, I’m a little reminiscent about her growing up so quickly. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing her 6 month and 1 year photos too. She gets more adorable every time, which I didn’t think was possible!

I had the pleasure of shooting portraits at one of my favorite locations this weekend – downtown Parkville, Missouri! The quaint shops, small-town feel, and friendly people make it a perfect spot. And this sweet family of three were all troopers, despite the temps barely above freezing.
