Family Portraits | Skyline View

Last weekend I met up with one my regular families for their yearly photos. Even though we planned them a little earlier in the season, it was still cold! Last year, I helped take photos for a birth announcement. This year, they have a sweet new baby boy, just two days older than my baby girl. They always pick fun locations – this time we headed to Kaw Point for a view of the downtown KC skyline. I planned it for perfect golden hour lighting, but it was foggy with no sun in sight. Luckily we still got some keepers!

Family Portraits | Fall at the Nature Sanctuary

I’ve known this mama for a number of years now, but I was so excited when she asked me to do family portraits so I could meet her two leading men! I also got to explore a new location – the Parkville Nature Sanctuary. It’s one of my new favs. You can’t beat a waterfall in Missouri! And little six-month-old Dean couldn’t be more adorable … I’m looking forward to editing the rest of the photos just so I can keep looking at that sweet smile!

Family in the Fall

Large portrait sessions are sometimes hard to coordinate. We’ve been planning this one for almost a year, but a couple of circumstances delayed it for quite a while. It’s almost like it was meant to be – the weather was absolutely perfect! This family was full of laughter and jokes. Many changes in my life have slowed down my photography this year, but they made me remember exactly why I love taking portraits. Thank you for that! Oh, and a throwback: I took photos of the youngest a couple of years ago.

Baby Abigail

One of my favorite photo families welcomed their third baby girl last week, and I had the honor of taking some newborn and family photos of them. They invited me (well, I invited myself) into their home just a few days after birth, because I was hoping to get both those sweet sleeping baby photos (the ones where you can pose them however you like), along with some awake photos. Unlike my newborn daughter, Abby was wide awake the entire time! I may not have captured a lot of posed shots of her, but I definitely got to showcase her beautiful newborn eyes and get some great shots of the family. You can tell they’re so in love with their newest edition!

Spring Portraits

With spring comes warmer weather…and wind! We definitely fought wind this portrait session, but the kiddos (and parents) did great. I couldn’t believe how much little Ethan smiled and posed for the camera. I’ve been doing this family’s photos since their engagement session close to a decade ago. Those photos were actually at the same park – in the wintertime! They live on the other side of the country now, but we’re always able to catch up when they come back to visit.

Portrait Session | She’s three? How can that be?

This little girl is growing up way too fast. She’s a ball of energy with a lot of sass and a lot to say. She couldn’t be any cuter! I’ve had the pleasure of taking her photos since she was an infant, so I love looking back to see how she’s changed. Since she has a late fall birthday, we utilized our newly remodeled church, which has great natural light.

Thankful | Family Portraits

As we approach Thanksgiving, I just want to say how thankful I am for all of my clients. You help me grow as a photographer each time you book a session, refer a friend, or even like my work on social media. I’m also thankful for this family – new clients who were open to a new location. They really toughed out cold, windy weather this afternoon, especially after just returning from a trip to Hawaii! I think the end result was worth it.

Family Portraits | Downtown Parkville

Fall weather has finally arrived in Kansas City. The wind was brisk, but the sun was shining and the mood was upbeat at this weekend’s portrait session in downtown Parkville. This continues to be one of my favorite places to take photos, with so many quaint storefronts and neat buildings. I had a great time getting to know this family and capturing their personality!
