Day 80: Upgrade!

This weekend I got my new Canon EOS 60d camera, and I absolutely love it! For those of you who wonder why I needed a new camera, I’m going to take some comparison shots with both cameras later this week. (Not to mention some camera phones now have more megapixels than my old DSLR did.) Here’s my new beauty!

Day 79: Around the river and through the woods…

… to Grandmother’s house we go! Yesterday we spent a couple hours with Grandma, bringing her one of her favorite foods (Chicken McNuggets from McDonald’s), watching basketball, and looking through photo albums. She’s lonely without Grandpa around, but she’s a devout KU basketball fan. I hope they stay in the tournament awhile longer since watching them play brings her so much  joy!

Day 78: A Lesson in Fire Safety

We visited my parents on Saturday, and my mom showed us her new favorite dessert – indoor S’mores, with the marshmallows cooked on the gas stove. Earlier that evening she showed me her tiny, outdated fire extinguisher, noting a replacement may be a good gift idea. Now that I look back, maybe these two occurrences weren’t a coincidence.

Day 77: Daffodil Days

This is one of the beautiful daffodils I purchased from the American Cancer Society Daffodil Days program – one of the American Cancer Society’s oldest and most beloved fundraising programs. As the first flower of spring, the daffodil represents hope and renewal.

Day 76: Large Books, Small Goals

Posting a St. Patty’s Day photo would be cliché, wouldn’t it? Actually between you and me, I didn’t do much for St. Patrick’s Day. When my best friend (a.k.a. the hubby) works a lot of overtime and has tons of homework for his Master’s classes, it puts a damper on our party life. Ok … vent over.

If you haven’t seen it, this is the front of the downtown Kansas City Library parking garage. Have you read any of these books? I’ve read two of them, thanks to my goal of reading the top 10 American classic novels. I just finished  the last one on my list – Farewell to Arms – and returned it yesterday. Another goal completed!

Day 75: The Farmhouse

I was lucky to spend some time outside enjoying the beautiful weather yesterday while I met my friend Lindsey for lunch. We met at the Farmhouse in the Rivermarket area of downtown Kansas City. I absolutely love the Rivermarket. It was still hard to find food without high fructose corn syrup, which I gave up for Lent, even though they buy their food from local farmers. Hopefully I succeeded.

Day 73: Gloomy mornings

I don’t know anyone who was hoping for snow yesterday morning, but that’s exactly what we got. The sleet and snow, along with the dark morning after Daylight Savings Time, made my Monday morning feel a little … ok, a lot … dreary. Luckily the skies cleared, it warmed up, and the snow melted. I can’t wait for the 70 degree weather later this week!

Day 72: Michelangelo might be a bit vain

I had another blog post prepared for today, but late last night after feeding my turtles and letting them explore for a bit, I found Michelangelo pressed up against a mirror, clearly checking himself out. As much as I try not to post the same subject repeatedly, this was too cute to pass up.

Day 71: All in a day’s work

Yesterday Jerod and I helped out with Habitat for Humanity. We started out a little lost and confused, but after several hours of measuring, cutting, nailing, bending over and reaching up, we’d helped put up studs for several walls in the basement. There were quite a few guys sheeting the roof too. It’s so great to see how far you can come with lots of volunteers and a day’s hard work.
