Days 278-279: Autumn at its Best

I’ve spent a lot of time admiring the changing leaves and beautiful fall colors lately. And since the trees are almost to their peak already, you may see even more of these photos from me in the next few days.

Bright orange trees are my favorite; this one is right across the street from where I live.

Day 277: The New American Craze

Frozen yogurt shops are popping up all across the country. Even though they all look similar and taste the same, I don’t mind seeing them on every corner – I love this “healthy” treat. Our local frozen yogurt joint, Yogurtini, was offering 50% off yesterday if you simply said, “Yogurtini Rocks” when you paid. We couldn’t pass up on that great deal – 2 large desserts for $3.51!

Day 275: A Double Feature

I had to post two photos for Saturday. Saturday morning I had the privilege of doing family portraits for Bobby, Sarah, and baby Elise. I love this photo because it seems so real and natural. On Saturday evening I attended my former high school marching band’s “Electric Light Show.” My dad is the assistant band director there. I had a great time shooting photos of the band all lit up at night.

Day 274 & 276: The Colors of Fall

Now that it’s October, I feel like I can take photos of all things fall-ish. I’m splitting up my weekend blog post, because my Friday and Sunday photos go together so well. Tomorrow I’ll post Saturday’s photo. I had another busy weekend – I started to type out all the details, but I decided not to bore you. I think these colorful photos are enough.

Trader Joe's and many other stores have all kinds of crazy varieties of gourds and pumpkins.
My mom's fresh lilies and mums make the perfect fall bouquet.

Day 273: Grunauer Self-Portrait

Yesterday my parents dropped off a large plant at my office (another blog post on that later) and took me out to eat at Grunauer, a German restaurant in Kansas City. The space was so cool – old hardwood floors, antique furniture, and huge distressed-looking mirrors. (Not sure if I got the terminology right on that one.) I shot a few photos of the space, but I think this self-portrait is the most unique.

Day 272: Hungry Eyes

I didn’t intend to use my cat as my model yet again,  but when she started looking up with those big eyes and begging for a treat last night, I couldn’t resist making her beg a little longer while I reached for my camera. (And yes, I did give her the treat after I got the photo. She deserved it!)

Day 271: The Wall

I went on my own personal photo walk during lunch yesterday … which basically means I walked around and took pictures of random things while people looked at me funny. I found out that contrary to popular belief, you can get good photos midday! I ended up with several keepers, but this was one of my favorites.

Day 269: Come Fly Away

I’m glidin’ in the beautiful sky, it’s such a clear day, oh
Go ridin’ in your sweet lullabies, come fly away, ay oh

As we left my friend Tekia's Southern Comfort Food Fest yesterday, this hot air balloon was taking off toward the sunset. Those of you who know T understand how perfectly this represents her.

Day 268: A trip to the zoo!

I have friends who are on a mission trip in Mozambique, Africa. When they first arrived a few days ago, they got to go on an African Safari where they saw all kinds of wild animals. As much as I’d love to be with them, this is the closest I’ll get for now – a trip to “Africa” and other part of the world at the Kansas City Zoo. Here are my top five favorite photos of the day. Which one is your favorite?

An elephant marches toward its food.
A lazy gorilla basks in the sunlight.
A lemur poses perfectly for my photo.
Two baboons look on at something with interest.
This bird, maybe some kind of parrot(?), nibbles at a clover.
