Why, hello little guy!

Why, hello little guy!

If you took a guess at yesterday’s photo, the correct answer is the Chapel at Powell Gardens just outside of Kansas City. Powell Gardens is home to this chapel, several types of flower gardens, fountains and water gardens, vegetable gardens, trails, and so much more. It’s such a beautiful place to visit that I’ve got about a week’s worth of photos to show you!

Can you name this beautiful structure? I visited it yesterday and got some gorgeous photos of the surrounding area, which I’ll be sharing over the next several days. Aren’t you in suspense now?

Thanks to the former homeowners, we have a beautiful rose bush blooming in our front yard!

I’m a day behind on posting a photo, but yesterday was so busy. We started the day at 5 a.m. when we woke up to participate in the Hospital Hill run with a few friends. My husband and I ran the 10k in about 57 minutes, which I thought was pretty good considering all of the hills. I placed 169/1189 women. Check out my friend Julie’s blog to see photos and read more about it. After that our group had brunch at a cute downtown restaurant, then we went with Julie to the Liberty Arts Festival. The weather was gorgeous, and we enjoyed that the festival wasn’t overwhelmingly large. Although we didn’t purchase anything, it was fun to look at all the local artists’ talent. And all of that happened before 1 p.m. Below is my favorite piece of “art” from the art fest!

I love this bright, beautiful (and interactive!) flower growing in my garden. Do you know what kind of flower it is?

In case you missed the others this season….
I’ve always struggled with getting good fireworks photos, but I think this year’s Celebration at the Station was a success. I used a tripod and had my camera setting on a high ISO, wide aperture, and fairly slow shutter speed (1/6 sec.). This is one of my favorites from the evening. What do you think? Is there anything I could have done to improve it?

Now that they have returned safely, I can finally say that my parents have been on a Mediterranean cruise for the past 10 days. From the brief photos I saw at the airport last night, it looks like I definitely need to add Greece to my bucket list. The cruise started and ended in Rome – one of my favorite cities. I was there exactly two years ago … though it barely feels like two months ago. Italy is one of those countries I think I could visit over and over again.

Happy Memorial Day!

Two of my close relatives are in Pompeii and Naples, Italy today. My husband and I were there almost exactly two years ago. Despite the crowds, it was pretty amazing to see the most well-preserved ancient ruins in the world. Below is a glimpse of what we saw. Click here to see my entire blog post of Italy.
