Photo of the Day: Carolina Crown

Thursday evening I attended a Drum Corps International show (aka DCI or drum corp). If you’ve never seen or heard of drum corp, these are some of the most talented, athletic musicians on the earth. Think the movie Drum Line, only even more hard-core. Check out this video to see Carolina Crown, the best corp of the night (and possibly the upcoming National Champions). Their show is titled E=MC2 and is supposed to represent Einstein’s mind. Below is just one scene from their awesome performance.

Photo of the Day: Abstract Fireworks #1

At our family fireworks display a few days ago, I wasn’t able to set up the tripod and get typical fireworks photos, because we were so close that I would’ve had to point the camera straight up into the sky. Even if I could’ve done this, the photos wouldn’t have been anything special with no foreground. So I opted to try something different with this shot. I used the “zoom effect” by holding my camera and zooming during a long shutter speed. What do you think?

Photo of the Day: Our Personal Fireworks Display

Fourth of July is the holiday of the year for my in-laws. I won’t even tell you how much they spend on fireworks. We always have a great time hanging out with family, eating too much, watching the kids shoot off small fireworks, and finishing the day with our own personal fireworks display. Here you can see four of the guys (my husband included) stepping back to watch a huge fountain they set off.

Photo of the Day: High Hopes

I was SO excited after capturing this photo – it’s perfect representation of our Relay For Life event on Friday night. It was a huge success – our event raised over $76,000, my team raised over $4600, and I raised over $1000 for the American Cancer Society. Let me know if you’re interested in purchasing this photo through etsy (choose your own photo option) or the contact me page – all proceeds will benefit Relay For Life. I’d love for our team to reach our $5000 fundraising goal!

Photo of the Day: It’s Time to Light the Track

Tonight is Relay For Life. Tonight, I will celebrate all the progress we’ve made in the fight against cancer. Tonight, I will remember loved ones lost. Tonight, I will fight back against the disease – by raising money & raising awareness. Twenty of my closest friends and family and I will gather together, along with about 400 other participates, to walk the track all night. To do what we can to help create a world with less cancer. And one day in my lifetime, a world with no cancer. Please do what you can, too. Support Relay For Life by purchasing a print of one of my photos. This is your last chance for 2013.

A luminaria lit to remember my Aunt Jill, who passed away from pancreatic cancer almost 3 years ago.

Photo of the Day: Celebration at the Station

I’ve always struggled with getting good fireworks photos, but I think this year’s Celebration at the Station was a success. I used a tripod and had my camera setting on a high ISO, wide aperture, and fairly slow shutter speed (1/6 sec.). This is one of my favorites from the evening. What do you think? Is there anything I could have done to improve it?
