I took this photo of our cat Esme about a year ago. She looks a lot like my parents’ new cat, don’t you think?

Photo of the Day: Introducing Mr. Toby
A sweet, rambunctious kitten adopted my parents last week, and I’m beyond excited about it! Toby is so playful and loving – he’s quickly becoming a member of the family. He’s always on the move – so catching a photo of him was a challenge.

Photo of the Day: Sleepy Girl
After many hours of playing games and splashing around in the pool at a family get together this weekend, my cousin Emma just couldn’t keep her eyes open any longer. It didn’t even matter that she was sitting at the dining room table amongst the loud, rambunctious adults playing games.

Photo of the Day: Carolina Crown
Thursday evening I attended a Drum Corps International show (aka DCI or drum corp). If you’ve never seen or heard of drum corp, these are some of the most talented, athletic musicians on the earth. Think the movie Drum Line, only even more hard-core. Check out this video to see Carolina Crown, the best corp of the night (and possibly the upcoming National Champions). Their show is titled E=MC2 and is supposed to represent Einstein’s mind. Below is just one scene from their awesome performance.

Family Portraits | In the Country
Continued from yesterday’s blog post, here are a few more of the family portraits I did last week. I really enjoyed shooting in the country with the different scenery, few distractions, and great early morning light.

Family Portraits | Darn Cute Kids
Ok, so I’m a little biased. I did a portrait session for my in-laws last week, and I can’t help but think these kids (my 6-year-old niece and 4-year-old nephew) are pretty cute. Their best features? Beth’s pretty smile and Caleb’s ornery facial expressions.Which photo is your favorite?
Hang tight, photos with Mom & Dad will be posted tomorrow. I didn’t want to post too many at once, and I love keeping you all in suspense.

Photo of the Day: Abstract Fireworks #2
This is an image of fireworks taken through the lens of 3D fireworks glasses. I didn’t get much time to experiment – the glasses were very popular with the little ones – so they didn’t want to share very long! The effect was pretty neat though.

Photo of the Day: Abstract Fireworks #1
At our family fireworks display a few days ago, I wasn’t able to set up the tripod and get typical fireworks photos, because we were so close that I would’ve had to point the camera straight up into the sky. Even if I could’ve done this, the photos wouldn’t have been anything special with no foreground. So I opted to try something different with this shot. I used the “zoom effect” by holding my camera and zooming during a long shutter speed. What do you think?

Photo of the Day: Our Personal Fireworks Display
Fourth of July is the holiday of the year for my in-laws. I won’t even tell you how much they spend on fireworks. We always have a great time hanging out with family, eating too much, watching the kids shoot off small fireworks, and finishing the day with our own personal fireworks display. Here you can see four of the guys (my husband included) stepping back to watch a huge fountain they set off.

Photo of the Day: Bright and Orange
This flower recently started blooming at our house – can anyone name it? It started out with very long, pretty leaves, so I didn’t even realize it was going to bloom until the buds formed.
